Initial comprehensive article creation
The Northern Ruins are the first combat region players encounter after leaving Colhen. Located near the border separating human and Fomor territory, the area consists of ancient ruins that have been reclaimed by nature and occupied by a splinter faction of Gnolls.
The ruins were once human land, part of the territory that was gradually absorbed as Fomor influence expanded. The Gnolls that now control the area have broken away from the main Fomor forces and operate semi-independently, raiding nearby settlements and threatening Colhen's supply lines.
The Northern Ruins are populated primarily by Gnolls — canine humanoid creatures that fight with a mix of melee weapons and ranged attacks.
Gnoll Warrior: Standard melee enemies armed with crude weapons. They attack in groups and try to surround the player.
Gnoll Ranger: Ranged enemies that fire projectiles from a distance. Prioritize these in mixed groups.
Pigyn: Small, basic enemies. Low threat individually but annoying in numbers.
Gnoll Veteran Warrior: Elite variant with more health, damage, and aggression than the standard warriors.
Four named sub-bosses patrol the Northern Ruins: Sharptooth, Shadowfang, Snowskin, and Wolftail. Each is a stronger Gnoll with unique attack patterns and higher stats. They serve as a step up in difficulty from regular enemies without reaching the intensity of the faction boss.
Crimsongale is the leader of the Gnoll forces in the Northern Ruins and the region's toughest fight. During the June 2025 alpha test, players widely considered Crimsongale the deadliest boss in the demo. The fight demands consistent precision — the majority of the chieftain's combo strings can be countered, but only with tight timing. Getting greedy with attacks during the wrong windows results in heavy punishment.
This fight is where many players first encounter the full depth of the combat system's Precision Action mechanics. The sub-bosses teach individual concepts; Crimsongale tests whether you can put them all together under pressure.
Campsites are scattered throughout the Northern Ruins, serving as safe rest points where players can refill Flovian Flasks, manage followers, and fast travel. The environment includes climbable surfaces, hidden paths, and resource nodes for crafting materials. Environmental interactions like ziplining and switch-activated doors also appear in this region.
