CD Projekt Red is a game development studio based in Warsaw, Poland. It is a subsidiary of CD Projekt and is best known for The Witcher video game series and Cyberpunk 2077. The studio was founded in 2002 and released the first Witcher game in 2007.
As of late 2025, more than 447 developers are assigned to The Witcher IV, exceeding the studio's original team-size targets. CD Projekt's total headcount is nearly 800 employees, with the remainder working on Cyberpunk 2 (codenamed Project Orion) and other projects.
Roughly 100 people who worked on The Witcher 3 still work at the company. This includes key creative leads like story director Marcin Blacha, who has led the narrative since the first Witcher game.
Sebastian Kalemba: Game director, formerly head of animation at CDPR
Gosia Mitrega: Executive producer
Marcin Blacha: Story director and VP of narration, with the series since The Witcher 1
Borys Pugacz-Muraszkiewicz: Main vision holder and lead writer
Doug Cockle: Voice actor for Geralt, confirmed to reprise his role
For The Witcher IV, CDPR has publicly committed to several design principles drawn from lessons learned during the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The team has emphasized no fetch quests, with every quest built around meaningful narrative content. They have also stated that player choices will have clearly visible consequences rather than hidden branching that players might miss.
CDPR has taken a firm position against using AI-generated content in their games, stating that they are doubling down on human storytelling and craftsmanship.
The Witcher IV is the first game in a planned trilogy of new Witcher titles. CD Projekt has outlined a roughly six-year plan to deliver all three games, with each sequel taking approximately three years of development. Based on the current timeline, this would place The Witcher V around 2030 and The Witcher VI around 2033.
The CEO Michal Nowakowski confirmed in late 2025 that The Witcher IV will not release in 2026. The earliest expected release window is 2027.
