Doppelganger Loadouts

Initial version (2026-05-31)
Doppelganger Loadouts are the main customization layer shown for The Hidden Ones. They let players equip a set of spectral support powers, each carrying an elemental effect, within a limited point budget, so a loadout can be shaped around a chosen playstyle.
Doppelgangers are spectral, companion-style support abilities rather than a fighter's own moves. They add elemental effects on top of the base martial arts of the active character, layering powers onto the core Combat System. Where a character's own kit centers on attacks, skills, blocks, and dodges, the Doppelganger powers are an extra slate of effects the player chooses to bring in. Lightning is among the elemental powers shown in the game, and the Doppelganger system is the broader route through which elemental powers are layered onto a build.
Equipping Doppelganger powers draws on a limited point budget referred to as Summon Points. Stronger powers cost more points, so a loadout is a trade-off between fewer powerful effects and more modest ones.
The figures shown in previews varied. One preview build gave players around four Summon Points and let them equip up to three powers. A separate description tied to Duel listed costs of one to three points per power, up to a total of five. These are preview-era figures and not final balance: the exact point economy may differ by mode or by build version, and it has not been locked down. Treat the numbers below as a snapshot of what previews showed rather than confirmed final values.
Preview Figure | Cost | Cap |
|---|---|---|
General loadout preview | Stronger powers cost more Summon Points | About four Summon Points; equip up to three powers |
Duel-specific preview | One to three points per power | Up to five points total |
Doppelganger Loadouts feed directly into team building for Duel Mode. Alongside picking three fighters, each player spends from the Doppelganger budget when assembling a loadout, so the choice of which support powers to bring is part of how a duel team is tuned. A loadout that fits the player's three-fighter plan can shape how a match plays out, which makes the point budget a genuine strategic decision rather than a flat bonus.
