The Tiger Hunter is one of the six playable Seekers in TARAE: The Unbound and one of three whose English class name comes from the game's own material. It is a ranged damage class that fights with firearms, placed traps and animal companions, and it was playable in the hands-on demo at gamescom 2026.

The six classes are reinterpretations of real historical roles from East Asia. Coverage of the studio presentation gave this one under the Korean designation chakho gapsa, the armoured tiger-hunting soldier of the Joseon period. That correspondence lines up with everything shown of the class, including the fur clothing and the long firearm in the official showcase, but the game's own material uses only the English name.
The kit was described as gunpowder weapons plus traps. Traps are placed during a fight rather than set beforehand, and their job is to restrict enemy movement, which turns them into spacing tools rather than pure damage. Hands-on impressions described the class as the most stable of the three playable in the demo for exactly that reason: hold the gap, fire, and reposition when something closes, with room to keep attacking even when a crowd arrives.
The firearm feedback was picked out as the strongest of the three demo classes. The report on it was specific: the reaction at the moment a shot lands is clear, and sustaining fire from range stays brisk rather than sluggish.
The Tiger Hunter is the only Seeker described so far with animal companions used as special skills. Three were named at the studio presentation, and one of them was seen in play.
Companion | What has been described |
|---|---|
Hunting falcon | Named as one of the class's special skills. No behaviour has been shown publicly. |
Sapsali dog | Named as one of the class's special skills. The sapsali is a shaggy Korean breed traditionally associated with driving off spirits. |
Monkey | Named as a special skill, and described in hands-on play as travelling with the character and supporting attacks the way a pet would. |
The class wears thick winter clothing made from animal fur. Hands-on impressions noted that the fur texture and the shape of the outer coat hold up when the camera is zoomed in, which the studio offered as its answer to the difficulty of appreciating character detail from a top-down camera. The official showcase clip shows the character in a fur cloak and cap with a long-barrelled firearm.
The comparison the hands-on drew is with the Samurai: the Tiger Hunter is a game about managing the distance to an enemy, while the Samurai is a game about erasing it. Both still sit inside the shared stamina economy described in Combat, so retreating is not free and a badly timed dodge costs the resource the class needs for its next reposition. Build layers on top of the class kit are covered in Builds and Progression.
