Coming from Stardew Valley - how does this compare?

I have about 600 hours in Stardew Valley and heard good things about Starsand Island. Just bought it yesterday. What are the biggest differences I should know about? The anime art style is a big shift but I'm open to it. Also, is the farming deeper or more shallow than Stardew? That's the main thing I care about.

Welcome! I also came from Stardew and here are the key differences: - Farming is comparable in depth but with a 3D building system so layout feels different - The Professions system is deeper. Five professions (Farming, Ranching, Fishing, Crafting, Exploration) each with their own certification tiers and a skill tree called the Workpedia - Combat/dungeon exploration is way more developed. The Moonlit Forest is basically a full action-RPG zone with multiple areas and bosses - Building and decoration is closer to My Time at Portia than Stardew. You place 3D objects and can build multi-story houses - There's actually a crossover with My Time at Portia and Sandrock (Gust, Ginger, Fang, and Nia are in the game as NPCs). Voice acting for more characters is coming in the April 2026 update. Farming itself is solid. Sprinklers, seasonal crops, fruit trees, animal genetics with a DNA trait system, and processing chains (Jam Maker, Pickling Jar, Brewing Barrel) are all there. You won't feel like it's a downgrade from Stardew.

The one thing Stardew does better right now is the structured progression of the community center bundles. Starsand Island has a Community Center building and Bulletin Board quests, but it's more freeform. That said, it's Early Access so more structure will probably come.

Biggest upgrade for me will be the multiplayer when it launches this summer. Up to 4 players with shared building is going to be great. Also the island is huge compared to Stardew's map. Between the overworld and the Moonlit Forest, there's a ton to explore.
