SILENT HILL: Townfall had received two patches by October 13, 2026, less than three weeks after its September 24, 2026 release, and had gone on sale on a third PC storefront. Konami publishes the patch notes on the game's official site and as announcements on Steam, and asks players to confirm each update by checking the version number shown in the lower right corner of the main menu. The patch name and that menu version are not the same number: each menu version runs one step ahead of its patch name, so Patch 1.3.1 displays as v1.4.153829 and Patch 1.4.0 as v1.5.154194.
Patch History
Patch | Released | Platforms | Main menu version | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Patch 1.3.1 | September 30, 2026 | Steam and Epic Games Store | v1.4.153829 | Reduced gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation |
Patch 1.4.0 | October 8, 2026 | PlayStation 5, Steam and Epic Games Store | v1.5.154194 | Retuned The Weight and other enemies, clarified two puzzles, fixed progress and out-of-bounds bugs, fixed the Letterbox option on ultrawide monitors, added AZERTY bindings, and improved frame pacing |
The notes for Patch 1.3.1 name only the two PC storefronts and say nothing either way about PlayStation 5, so Patch 1.4.0 is the first update confirmed for the console. Both patches came out before the game's GOG release on October 9, 2026.
Patch 1.3.1
Released on September 30, 2026 for Steam and the Epic Games Store, Patch 1.3.1 was described by Konami as an update addressing a performance-related issue. It made one listed change: less gameplay stuttering caused by shader precompilation, the problem reviewers had flagged on PC at launch. On launch day Konami had said an update for performance-related issues affecting the Steam version was being prepared, and Patch 1.3.1 was the next update to ship after that notice. PC performance is covered on System Requirements.
Patch 1.4.0
Released on October 8, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store, Patch 1.4.0 was described as improving some systems and addressing some in-game issues. Konami's notes sort its changes into four groups, summarised below. After installing it, the main menu should show v1.5.154194.
The Weight
The notes name one enemy, The Weight, the only creature in the game named in first-party material so far. It searches for and hunts the player, and nothing official describes what it looks like. The patch changed four things about it:
Its grab attacks now deal heavy damage instead of causing instant death on the Story Mode and Normal difficulties.
Its searching was improved so that it no longer camps in front of the player's objective for long periods.
Its searching was improved so that it no longer keeps searching the same location and staying there for long periods.
Its hunting was improved so that it no longer tracks the player too aggressively.
Other Enemies
Enemies are less sensitive to the sound of firearms.
Enemies are less sensitive to the sound of the player running.
Enemies are less sensitive to the sound of the player entering a hiding space.
Enemies counterattack less often after the player lands a successful melee attack.
Except for The Weight, enemies no longer attempt grapples while the player is actively blocking with a melee weapon.
After escaping a grapple, the player is given more time to react.
How those changes fit the rest of the encounter design is covered on Combat and Stealth.
Puzzles
A collectible manual for the Remote Systems Control console, which can be viewed for quick reference while operating the console.
A clearer pipe layout for the Aux Line puzzle.
Both puzzles are listed on Puzzles, and the manual on Items and Inventory.
Bug Fixes
A late-game issue that could block progress.
A late-game display issue in which several items of the same kind could all show the same name.
Several places where the player could go out of bounds and break the sequence of the game.
The Letterbox option not appearing when playing on an ultrawide monitor. The setting is described on Art Direction and Presentation.
Missing key bindings for AZERTY keyboards, added to the key and button assignment settings.
Better frame pacing and fewer instances of streaming stutter.
Developer Commentary
On October 9, 2026, the day after the patch, Jon McKellan posted about it on Screen Burn's development updates page, the studio's first post there since August 20, 2026. Answering players who wondered whether the game had simply been nerfed, he wrote that the word reduced in the notes is deliberately broad and that the changes are less blunt than they sound. The team wanted to keep the terror, challenge and excitement of the game's encounters and their narrative significance, and "what we have actually done is tune the difficulty to bring the challenges more in line with the intended experience across the various difficulty settings" while giving players a little more room to explore the game's different gameplay options.
He added that "Some of these changes are very, very subtle" and may go unnoticed in the heat of a fight, but that over a whole playthrough players should feel a little more able to fight when they need to. He invited returning players to try the new version and share their feedback.
GOG Release
On October 9, 2026 the game was released on GOG, joining Steam and the Epic Games Store as a third PC storefront. The GOG version is Windows only and DRM-free, needing no activation or online connection to play, and its listing includes achievements, cloud saves and controller support. It is sold in the same Standard and Deluxe editions as on the other storefronts, with the same system requirements, and Konami's official purchase links now include it. See Release Date and Platforms and Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses.
Launch-Period Notices
On launch day, September 24, 2026, Konami posted two notices on Steam. The first said an update to address performance-related issues affecting the Steam version was being prepared, with its release date to be announced. The second said an issue that had stopped some pre-purchase and Deluxe Edition content from unlocking had been resolved, and asked affected players to exit the game, check their internet connection and restart the Steam app.
Troubleshooting Advice
On September 26, 2026, while the performance update was still being prepared, the publisher posted troubleshooting steps for the most commonly reported PC issues. This advice dates from the launch period, before either patch, and may no longer apply.
Issue | Advice at launch |
|---|---|
Repeated crashes on AMD graphics cards | Disable ray tracing in the game's Options menu as a temporary solution while the issue was investigated with AMD |
Crashes on Nvidia graphics cards | Update to the latest Nvidia drivers before launching the game |
Controller buttons triggering interactions twice | Disable Steam Input for the game and restart; the publisher described this as a known Steam issue affecting many games |
The same day the publisher also posted ten survival tips for new players. Two of them, that most enemies counterattack in melee and that grapples cannot be blocked, describe the launch version: Patch 1.4.0 reduced melee counterattacks and stopped enemies other than The Weight from attempting grapples against a player who is blocking with a melee weapon. The tips are summarised on Combat and Stealth.
Support
Screen Burn routes all support requests for the game to Konami, which runs separate support forms for Europe, the United States and Japan. The studio describes itself as too small a team to answer customer support directly, and says Konami will connect with it if Konami cannot help.
Where Patches Are Announced
As of October 13, 2026 both sets of patch notes have been published on the game's official site and as Steam announcements. Neither patch has been announced in Konami's press newsrooms, and no official video covers either patch or the GOG release.
