The Sagas of Lumin demo was a free, separate Steam download released on May 22, 2025. It took part in Steam Next Fest in June 2025, was patched repeatedly over its first five weeks, received a larger update in March 2026, and was removed from Steam in spring 2026. The studio has said it is focusing on closed and open betas instead of a traditional demo. Everything on this page describes the demo as it was; it is no longer available.
The developer described the demo as a section packaged from the middle of the game, with a mission flow built to introduce the overall concept. It opened in a tutorial area, the Ancient Stones map, which was made only for the demo to teach flight. The developer said the tutorial and the ship section represented different points in time and that the full game would not have that transition. A Skip Tutorial option was available from the pause menu.
At the start the game recommended a controller. The developer said keyboard play was also supported, and keyboard controls were reworked over the following patches.
Area | What the demo had |
|---|---|
Tutorial | A ring course on the Ancient Stones map, with edible birds the dragon could catch to restore health |
Hub | The Ship Hub, a flying ship with a Captain's Cabin, a dragon hangar and, from patch 0.22, a training dummy |
Characters | Captain Terra, who had dialogue scenes, and a Blacksmith who could be rescued in the first bandit camp and then sold dragon armor |
Dragon | Manual flight, fire breath, tackles, a battle mode for camp fights, a dodge, checkpoints, and a speed boost unlocked at dragon level 5 |
On foot | Sword combat with block, parry, dodge roll and lock-on, steampunk firearms, the Aerball spell and healing potions |
Enemies | Bandits in camps, including gun-wielding enemies, plus rival dragons and camp cannons |
Graphics options | DLSS, plus FSR 3.1 upscaling from patch 0.22 |
More detail on these systems is on Dragons, Aerial Combat, Ground Combat and World of Lumin.
The demo was part of Steam Next Fest in June 2025. The studio released a dedicated gameplay trailer on June 8, 2025, announcing that the game was coming to the festival and inviting players to try the free demo during it.

A crash when landing on the airship near the end of the demo was reported after the March 2026 update, and the developer said on March 18, 2026 that it had been fixed.
The studio reported passing 10,000 wishlists very shortly after the demo went live. The CEO later said the demo received more than 90 percent positive reviews, a figure given by the studio. Player feedback on the forums generally praised the dragon flight and the dragon design and criticized the keyboard controls, input responsiveness, ground combat animation and performance. The June 2025 input overhaul and the keybinding added in 0.5 were direct responses to those complaints.
The demo was taken off Steam in spring 2026; forum threads asking where it had gone began on April 23, 2026. On May 29, 2026 the CEO explained that the demo had been an early concept meant to gather feedback, and that over time it "became insufficient in showing the current state and direction of the game and started to create a wrong impression". The studio said it would show progress through trailers and announcements instead.
On July 28, 2026 the studio confirmed it would focus on closed and open beta groups rather than a traditional demo. The first of these is the Closed Playtest, which began in September 2026. See Development History for the wider timeline.
