Aerial combat in Sagas of Lumin is fought from the back of the player's dragon in real time. The player can strafe enemies with fire, wrestle rival dragons in mid-air, burn enemy camps and attack airships, then land and continue on foot through ground combat. Some of it was playable in the 2025 demo; other parts have only been shown in trailers or described by the studio.
Attack | Description | Status |
|---|---|---|
Fire breath | The main ranged attack, used in flight, while hovering or on the ground. Players reported it could only be sustained for a short time before recharging. | In the 2025 demo |
Tackle | Ramming another dragon in mid-air and grappling with it. Tackles were tuned in several demo patches. | In the 2025 demo |
Claws and bites | Close attacks on a grappled dragon or nearby enemies. Players described finishing grappled dragons with teeth and claws. | In the demo; featured in trailers |
Picking up objects | The dragon could lift objects such as explosive barrels and drop them. | In the demo, per players |
Dragging soldiers into the air | Grabbing enemy soldiers, carrying them up and dropping them. | Described in the publisher's promotional copy |
Tail attacks | Knocking enemies into the air with the tail. | Described by the studio in October 2026 |
Eating enemies | The dragon eats enemies on the ground. | Described by the studio in October 2026 |
In 2025 the developer said the dragon on the ground could act like "a fire-breathing tank" and that more claw, bite and tail attacks would be worked on later. In October 2026 the CEO said the dragon can eat enemies on the ground, send them flying with its tail and fight other dragons hand to hand in the air, adding that the aim from the start was a true dragon experience rather than a plane game with dragon visuals.
Holding battle mode (right mouse button or L2 in the demo) gives finer control for fights over camps and lets the dragon slow down or hover to aim. Players found it useful for destroying camp cannons and for holding position while dodging. The dragon also has a dedicated dodge, which moved from Q to V in patch 0.2 and then to ALT on keyboard and X on controller in patch 0.5. Full controls are listed on Dragons.
Wild and enemy dragons were part of the demo. An uncut gameplay video released on April 15, 2025 showed a rider fighting a pack of enemy dragons from start to finish. The store description presents challenging rival dragons as a core part of the combat.
Bandit camps were the main targets in the demo. They had gun-wielding enemies and cannons, and the dragon could burn them from the air or land among them and keep fighting. Patch 0.2 fixed a crash that happened when blowing things up with the dragon in camps. The store page describes laying waste to enemy bases, and the official setting text speaks of scorching the ground or striking from above.

Airships are the other large target. The setting text calls them "steel leviathans" that attack with cannon and flame, and asks the player to dodge their broadsides and fly between flak and fire. The description of the 2024 announcement trailer promised players could "destroy the flying galleons". The publisher's description adds that the dragon can target an airship's sails, engines and cannons with fire breath while evading cannon fire. Airship battles have been shown in trailers; how they work in the final game has not been detailed as of October 2026.

Aerial battlegrounds: dedicated aerial combat zones with a variety of enemy ships, announced on the Roadmap.
Dragon races, listed as a side activity on the roadmap.
Different dragon races with their own speed and flight dynamics, according to the CEO in December 2025.
Wider destruction. The developer said in 2025: "We'll be able to burn and destroy most things we see in the world, not just trees."
The places where these fights happen are covered on World of Lumin.
