Studio Focus
The August 2026 announcement describes the studio as making sandbox and deep simulation games that let players experiment, make meaningful choices and shape their own stories through emergent gameplay. That approach matches how the developer describes his own game: he says he first built Probably Stolen as a sandbox simulator.
Origins of Probably Stolen
According to the studio's first news post, Probably Stolen began as a solo project by Bei Ning Pan, who was later joined by a team of 4 artists and 3 audio developers.
The game was built on top of an earlier project called Space Looter, a turn-based sci-fi space station crawler. Space Looter was shelved, and the idea of turning it into a shopkeeping simulator came to Bei Ning when he returned from a trip. His biggest inspirations for Probably Stolen were Space Station 13 and, to a lesser degree, Papers, Please. Space Looter is not a separate release and is mentioned here only as development history.
Bei Ning Pan
Before Probably Stolen, Bei Ning worked as an intern at The Coalition (a Microsoft Xbox Game Studios studio), Ubisoft Montreal and Eidos. As of October 20, 2026, no other staff have been named in official posts.
The developers answer player questions on the game's official discussion forum, and those replies have said that mod and Steam Workshop support and an official French version will be ready for 1.0. He has also said the main story will arrive in a post-launch update, explaining that he originally built the game as a sandbox simulator and that the story is being added because the community asked for it. The August 28, 2026 milestone post also credits Bei Ning and the art team with the work on the demo.
Relationship with tinyBuild
tinyBuild is the publisher. The store's legal line credits Questing Goose Studio as developer and tinyBuild as publisher. tinyBuild announced the game on August 3, 2026, with an open playtest the same day, and revealed the October 28, 2026 release date during its livestream showcase on September 14, 2026. The release date trailer is hosted on the publisher's video channel.
Community and Development Process
The studio ran an open playtest and a public demo before launch and published patch notes for each build. Its September 9, 2026 summary reported 180,000 unique playtest players and 1,183 bug reports, and listed the requests it had heard most, such as more customers, perks, items, machines and store customization. Update 049 credits a community member for the original idea behind Equip mode. See Demo and Playtest and Update History.
Not Yet Confirmed
As of October 20, 2026, the studio has not published a founding date, a full staff list or plans for other games.
