Factions and Reputation

Created page: Factions and Reputation (2026-10-20)
Reputation decides who will deal with your shop in Probably Stolen, what they will offer, and how much trouble comes your way. Official material confirms two reputation tracks by name and several groups that walk up to the counter. As of October 20, 2026, the developers have not published a full faction roster.
The store page describes each sale as a choice: approve it, refuse it, report it, or look away, with someone always taking notes. Reputation buys access and protection, but it also paints a target on your back. One of the listed features is building connections with the right factions to get exclusive deals.
Patch notes add some mechanics. Since Update 049, buy-side and sell-side bargains only affect reputation gains in their own trade direction, and the bargain panel shows a reputation multiplier for each direction. The same update fixed a bug where the Diplomatic starting perk also amplified reputation losses. Starting perks are covered in Starting Scenarios and Perks.
Track | Confirmed Effects |
|---|---|
Security reputation | Passing an inspection after showing contraband in the display case and then hiding it in the smuggler bay no longer grants Security reputation (Patch 48.3.12), closing a farming exploit. |
Black Market reputation | Can drop below zero. At minus 40, you keep access to the janitorial service, but its cost doubles (Patch 48.3.10). The Thief's stock scales with this reputation (Update 049). |
For how Security reputation ties into inspections, evidence and fines, see Security and Contraband. Other paid help, such as Wild's fixers, appears in Wild's Network.
These are the only groups named so far. Do not assume each is a separate reputation track; only Security and the Black Market have been confirmed as tracks.
Group | Where It Appears | What Is Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
Security | Store page, patch notes, screenshots | Runs inspections and investigations, posts a wanted poster, and publishes the aug identification guide |
Black Market | Patch notes | Has its own reputation track and a janitorial service |
The Revolution | Store page, screenshot | A revolutionary may come seeking leverage; a Revolution Quartermaster customer says "The Revolution is bleeding, comrade." |
Elites | Store page | A fallen elite may test your usefulness; a listed feature is profiting from the arrogant elite by selling them counterfeit goods |
Upper Level customers | Update 049 notes | Customers who are not from the Upper Level will not accept Premium Spring Water |
Lower Levels | Announcement, screenshot | The shop sits on the Lower Levels; a customer card reads Lower Level Citizen |
Tourists | Update 049 notes | Will not accept Premium Spring Water; a Tourist Tax item feature exists |
Customers carry a faction, which is why the aug identification guide lists an outfit that does not match the wearer's faction as a warning sign. Update 049 also fixed a bug where a returning chemical feedback client did not keep the correct faction.
The station is described as split by wealth and corruption. The Upper Level and Lower Level labels, the elites and the Lower Level citizens all point to that divide. The store also lists exploiting, or helping, the less fortunate as a feature. As of October 20, 2026, the game's material does not explain how helping or exploiting poorer customers affects reputation.
As of October 20, 2026, the following are unconfirmed:
The full list of factions and whether the Revolution, the elites or other groups have their own reputation tracks.
Reputation thresholds and rewards beyond the minus 40 Black Market example.
How faction standing feeds into the endings, or into the main story planned for a post-launch update.
