Animal Farming

Created page: Animal Farming (2026-10-20)
Probably Stolen lets you raise animals in the shop. Rat ranching in Animal Cages came first, and a demo update on October 19, 2026 added fish farming in tanks. Farmer is one of the starts listed on the store page, which also names hydroponic farmer among the extra jobs you can take on.
Rats are kept in Animal Cages; one pre-release screenshot shows several cage windows full of rats. A starting scenario called the Rat Wrangler also exists. It was secret in the playtest and was made visible in Patch 48.3.12 on August 7, 2026; see Starting Scenarios and Perks.
Equipment and items tied to animal care in official patch notes include the feed dispenser, the Vacuum Robot (which can sit inside a cage and, once upgraded with its incinerator, destroys the feces in its storage), livestock serums whose doses can be combined, mouse traps that can be stored in bags, and dead rats. Machines are covered on Machines and Crafting.
The Gene Scanner shows an animal's alleles as colors in its tooltip. Since Update 049 the colors follow the stat's direction: a low Hunger Rate roll shows green and a high one shows red, where earlier it was the reverse. As of October 20, 2026, a full list of animal stats has not been published.
Update 049, released with the demo on September 14, 2026, reworked the Animal Cage.
Change | Detail |
|---|---|
Durability wear | Scales with the size of the living animals inside; dead animals, cage equipment and other stored items cause no wear |
Ingot size upgrades | Each one adds 20 maximum durability and 20 current durability |
Scrap repair | Restores 50% of maximum durability instead of a flat 50 points |
Placement | Machines can no longer be placed inside, except cage equipment such as the Vacuum Robot and feed dispenser |
The same update fixed a bug that let players upgrade an Animal Cage with scrap metal they did not own.
The Aquafarmer demo update on October 19, 2026 added a new Wild's Network upgrade, the Retired Aquafarmer. This retired merchant sells the equipment for raising fish in tanks so you can harvest and sell their meat. You begin with a basic water circulation system, a stock of tilapia and a supply of fish food. The developers describe aquaculture as slower-paced than rat ranching, with less maintenance, and more beginner friendly.
Species | What Is Confirmed |
|---|---|
Tilapia | Several varieties; the starting stock |
Eels | A more valuable species you can expand into |
Sturgeons | A more valuable species; Surgery Tools harvest caviar from them |
Each species has its own habitat requirements. You manage the tank's water quality, filtration and energy cell to keep the water circulating and the fish healthy. Tanks can be upgraded if you supply the right materials. Water purity in general is covered on Water Trading.
When habitat conditions are met, fish may reproduce by laying and fertilizing roe.
The eggs eventually hatch into swarms of fry.
The fry grow into mature fish.
A knife slaughters and butchers fish for their meat. Some fish also give unique resources beyond meat, and sturgeons can be harvested for caviar with Surgery Tools. As of October 20, 2026, the other unique resources have not been named.
The animated images in the October 19 post show an updated interface that the developers said is coming in the full release and is not in the demo. Expect the aquafarming screens at launch on October 28, 2026 to differ from the demo version.
