Several trades in Probably Stolen depend on machines. The store page lists managing machines and production chains to craft valuable artifacts as a core feature, and notes that some trades need heavy machinery and permits. This page lists the machines named in official patch notes and pre-release screenshots and what each is confirmed to do.
Production Chains
A production chain takes something you bought or scavenged and turns it into something worth more: dirty water into drinkable water, ingredients into chemicals, fruit into wine. Most machines take inputs in slots, need power, and accept modules. Machine modules affect performance, efficiency and quality. As of October 20, 2026, a full list of machines and recipes for the 1.0 release has not been published.
Power
Machines must be powered. Batteries supply power and can be swapped by dragging one owned battery onto another. The Powerbloc charges adjacent batteries and machines. A power service also appears as a running cost on the End of Day screen; after you unlock Power Hijack it disappears from that screen and stays always active. Patch notes also refer to buying Powerline Hijack. Patch 48.3.12 fixed a bug where the furnace's Junk Processing Module was secretly drawing twice the power it displayed.
Named Machines and Devices

Chem Finisher | Makes chemicals from a selected recipe; slots for a chem module, a container and the output, plus a control panel |
Evaporator | Slots for a battery, a module, a container and a distillate output |
Heating Plate | Controls temperature with Off, Low and High settings |
Cryptographic Desequencer | Works with keycards; has a power source, crypto modules, a chip slot, an input and an output |
Water Purifier | Purifies water. See Water Trading. |
Hydratech Micro Purifier | Can reach 98% purity |
Moisture Farm | Extracts water from humid air overnight; needs energy and a container |
Bottle Printer | Prints bottles; upgradable with electronic parts to the normal and large bottle printer |
Vacuum Robot | Cleans at night and has a manual function; an upgrade adds an incinerator that doubles power use and destroys the feces in its storage |
Furnace | Takes a Junk Processing Module |
Animal Cage | Houses animals. See Animal Farming. |
Feed dispenser | Cage equipment for feeding animals |
Mirage Projector | Adds a store attractiveness bonus. See Rent and Store Economy. |

Advanced Turbo-Booster | Its sprite is color coded by status |
Pre-release screenshots also show a Storage Bay and a Machine Bay for holding containers and machines. Since Update 049, you can open and preview containers and machines before buying them, and container windows show the custom name set with the Blue Labeler.

Chemistry
The store page says profitable chemicals rely on closely guarded recipes, and that chemicals bring addiction. In a pre-release screenshot, the Chem Finisher's control panel shows the status No Recipe Selected. The Evaporator and Heating Plate appear beside it in the same screenshot. Patch notes also mention a chemical feedback client, a returning customer tied to chemical sales.

Wine
A pre-release screenshot shows the Bloomberry Wine Fermenting Guide, with a magnifier held over grapes. Since Update 049, pouring wine into a liquid container produces a Wine Extract liquid, which changes the liquid's color. The same update fixed a bug where players addicted to alcohol could not drink wine made before a reload.

Keycards and Supply Crates
The Cryptographic Desequencer handles keycards and desequencer chips. Update 049 shelved the Supply and Science keycards and chips because no supply crates for them exist yet, and it buffed the Security Supply Crate. A developer reply on September 14, 2026 said the red crates got a big buff in the new demo.
Toolbox and Equip Mode
Update 049 added one new early-game machine with a matching new item; the notes do not name the machine. Separately, the update added the Toolbox, which stores tools including the blue and red labelers. Pressing keys 1 to 9 equips the matching tool, and Dr. Jackson sells the Toolbox after day 14. The same update added Equip mode, which lets you use a selected tool quickly on several items in a row. Inspection tools are covered on Authentication and Appraisal.
