Stagger System
February 27, 2026 at 04:28 PM
Expanded with break bar mechanics, methods to fill stagger, Discord reaction, and parry types
The stagger system is a core combat mechanic in Neverness to Everness. Enemies have a break bar beneath their HP. Landing hits and successful dodges build an enemy's stagger meter. Once filled, enemies enter a vulnerable state where they are stunned temporarily, providing a window for significantly increased damage.
Method | Description |
|---|---|
Normal Attacks | Landing basic attack combos gradually fills the break bar. |
Dodge Counters | Successfully dodging enemy attacks triggers counter opportunities that contribute to stagger. |
Parries | Timing parries as the parry circle aligns with the outer ring. Five parry variants exist (see below). |
Skills and Ultimates | Character abilities contribute to the break bar, with some characters specializing in breaking. |
Discord Reaction | The Discord trio reaction (Nova + Scorch simultaneously) directly reduces a target's break meter. |
The parrying system includes five distinct variants:
Normal Attack Parry: Parry during a basic attack combo.
Plunge Attack Parry: Parry while performing an aerial plunge.
Skill Parry: Parry during a skill animation.
Normal Swap Parry: Parry when tagging in a new character.
Esper Cycle Swap Parry: Parry during an Esper Cycle character swap.
Certain characters excel at breaking enemies. For example, Daffodil's ultimate excels at depleting the break bar, especially when charged quickly through parrying. Building teams with strong break capabilities alongside DPS characters who capitalize on the stagger window is a key part of team building.
