Nullification is the process of neutralizing Anomalies in Neverness to Everness, returning them to a state that no longer deviates from reality. It is one of the primary methods the Bureau of Anomaly Control uses to deal with supernatural threats.
Nullification involves eliminating or stabilizing an Anomaly's deviation from reality. Different Anomalies require different nullification approaches, from direct confrontation to specialized containment procedures.
The goal is to either eliminate the Anomaly entirely or reduce its Worheimer Index reading to safe levels.
Some Anomalies undergo natural nullification over time. When major events like Hypervortex emergences occur, natural nullification protocols may be enacted while Bureau personnel continue search and containment operations.
Interestingly, direct observation of an Anomaly's core (the Nexus) has been observed to accelerate the nullification process in some cases.
When a nullification method has not yet been discovered for a particular Anomaly, it is placed in temporary containment (tempcon). Bureau personnel, particularly those in the Containment Safety Unit, continue to study contained Anomalies to develop effective nullification procedures.
Tempcon is considered a holding measure while research continues. The goal is always to eventually achieve full nullification.
