Overview
Kiroumaru is a sentient Anomaly that serves as both the weapon and constant companion of Sakiri, the S-Rank Incantation Esper at the Eibon Antique Shop. Classified as an Anomaly Hammer, Kiroumaru is far more than an ordinary weapon. It has its own personality, appetites, and reactions, and its behavior often mirrors Sakiri's emotions. The creature is described as "dangerous, dependable, and surprisingly misunderstood," reflecting both its threat as a weapon and its role as Sakiri's closest ally.
Despite its classification as a weapon, Kiroumaru exhibits distinctly creature-like behavior. It can bite, shock, devour enemies whole, and even manipulate gravity. The Bureau of Anomaly Control's stance on Kiroumaru is implied through Eibon's shop disclaimer: "not liable for anything swallowed or for any bitten butts," suggesting that Kiroumaru's appetite and temperament are well-known concerns.
Appearance
Kiroumaru takes the form of an enormous creature adorning the end of a staff or hammer that Sakiri wields. Its size contrasts sharply with Sakiri's own diminutive frame, creating a visual contrast that is central to the character's design. Kiroumaru appears monstrous and imposing, with a wide mouth capable of consuming objects, enemies, and apparently whatever it finds in the fridge.
Personality
Kiroumaru is defined by one overriding trait: gluttony. The creature is constantly hungry and will attempt to eat anything within reach if left unsupervised. This is the direct reason for the first of Sakiri's three non-negotiable shop rules at Eibon: "Don't feed random things to Kiroumaru." The rule exists because other Eibon members have apparently tried feeding the Anomaly inappropriate items, with unpredictable results.
Beyond its appetite, Kiroumaru displays a range of emotional responses that mirror Sakiri's mood. When Sakiri is angry, Kiroumaru becomes aggressive and dangerous. When she is calm, the weapon is more docile. This emotional synchronization creates both comedic and dramatic moments throughout the game. Kiroumaru has been described as a creature that "bites, shocks, and sometimes judges," suggesting it also has opinions about the people around it.
Combat Abilities
In combat, Kiroumaru functions as Sakiri's primary weapon and the source of all her attack capabilities. Sakiri's fighting style revolves entirely around wielding Kiroumaru, swinging the Anomaly Hammer for devastating close-range damage. The hammer's abilities go far beyond simple melee strikes:
Ability | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
Kiroumaru Headbutt | Basic Attack | Up to 5 consecutive ram attacks. Holding the attack activates Eating Mode, where Kiroumaru pulls nearby targets in a cone, destroys movable objects, and devours weak enemies. |
Devour Whole | Skill | Blurp: Pulls enemies in, inflates, and knocks the target down. Gravity Eater: Devours gravity to levitate enemies (ineffective against bosses). |
Feast of Gluttony | Ultimate | Spits Gravity Slurry dealing 6 instances of Incantation damage, then crushes enemies against the ground, suppressing their movement. |
Squash! | Slams an enlarged Kiroumaru onto the target for a single instance of heavy damage. |
Devouring Mechanic
Kiroumaru's most distinctive combat feature is its ability to devour enemies. When Eating Mode is activated during the basic attack, Kiroumaru pulls nearby targets into its maw and consumes weak enemies entirely. Each devoured enemy enters a 180-second digestion period, and Kiroumaru can only digest one target at a time. This mechanic is unique to Sakiri and reflects Kiroumaru's lore as a gluttonous Anomaly that quite literally eats its problems.
Gravity Manipulation
Several of Kiroumaru's abilities involve manipulating gravity. The Gravity Eater variant of Devour Whole levitates enemies by "devouring" the gravity around them, suspending them helplessly in the air (though this does not work on bosses). The Feast of Gluttony ultimate spits "Gravity Slurry" as a ranged attack before crushing enemies into the ground. This gravity theme ties Kiroumaru's combat identity to a broader control-oriented playstyle.
Passive Abilities
Kiroumaru contributes to Sakiri's passive skill kit as well:
Can I Eat This? (Scorch Enhancement): Applies a random debuff to targets, either reducing their ATK by 15%, lowering their Esper Resistance by 10%, or increasing Break Effectiveness against them by 15%. The debuff lasts 15 seconds.
Impish Trick: After Sakiri's ultimate, the team's ATK is boosted by 15% of Sakiri's base ATK for 20 seconds. This buff applies to all team members except Sakiri herself, making Kiroumaru's rampages beneficial for the entire squad.
Awakening Enhancements
As Sakiri is awakened through duplicate pulls on the Scarborough Fair board, Kiroumaru's capabilities expand across six tiers plus two bonus stages. These enhancements include extended crowd control durations, the ability to digest multiple enemies simultaneously, increased damage scaling based on the number of active debuffs on targets, and higher skill levels for all of Kiroumaru's combat abilities.
Role at Eibon
Within the Eibon Antique Shop, Kiroumaru is a constant presence that contributes to the shop's chaotic atmosphere. Sakiri's rules are largely motivated by Kiroumaru's behavior: the ban on feeding it random things, the "not liable" disclaimer about biting, and the mysterious prohibition on opening the third fridge shelf all trace back to incidents involving the Anomaly's appetite and unpredictable actions.
Other Eibon members have learned to coexist with Kiroumaru, though not without incident. The creature's gluttony and tendency to bite make it a source of slapstick comedy within the shop, while in the field, its devastating combat power makes it one of the team's greatest assets. Kiroumaru embodies the game's broader theme of Oddities and Anomalies coexisting uneasily alongside humans in Hethereau's daily life.
Trivia
Sakiri's title, "Gluttonous Gourmet," is a direct reference to Kiroumaru's insatiable appetite rather than Sakiri's own eating habits.
The Eibon shop disclaimer ("not liable for anything swallowed or for any bitten butts") specifically references Kiroumaru's tendency to bite and consume things without warning.
Kiroumaru's emotional synchronization with Sakiri means that angering her is doubly dangerous: both the Esper and the Anomaly become aggressive simultaneously.
The name "Kiroumaru" may reference the character Kiromaru from the Japanese novel and anime From the New World (Shinsekai Yori), which also features themes of supernatural powers and societal control.
