Removed an unsourced aside about the difficulty preset names coming from the comics
11Marvel's Wolverine ships with an unusually detailed set of accessibility and assist options, and they are worth reading even if you are not looking for accessibility features specifically. Several of them are the clearest public description of systems the game has otherwise said little about, and the options menu is where a few in-game terms first appear in writing.22Two published counts44Two figures describe this game's accessibility, and they measure different things. The PlayStation product page shows a count of 35, which is the number of standardised storefront accessibility tags the game qualifies for: 7 under Visuals, 5 under Audio, 6 under Subtitles and Captions, 9 under Controls, and 8 under Gameplay. Those tags are a shared vocabulary used across the whole platform, so they describe what the game supports rather than what its settings menu contains. Insomniac published a separate, game-specific list, and that one runs to about 127 individual options across eight categories. The studio's own summary figure for it is over 100 new, returning and improved accessibility features.66Neither number is wrong and neither should be quoted as the other. This page follows the studio's list, because it is the one that maps onto the menus you actually see in game.88How the list is organised1010The options are grouped into eight categories: Gameplay Assists, Motion Sensitivity, Visual Assists, Audio Assists, High Contrast Options, Violence Customization, Subtitles and Captions, and Controller and Layout. Violence Customization is entirely new to this game. Most categories open with a preset that sets several related options in one go, and there are separate Motor, Motion Sensitivity, Vision, Hearing, High Contrast, and Violence presets.1212The tables below mark each setting as either new to this game or returning from earlier Insomniac releases, following the studio's own tagging. 46 settings carry the new tag. A handful of entries are not on the disc at launch and arrive with the first update instead; those are called out in the description for each affected setting.1414Gameplay assists1616This is the largest category and it doubles as the game's difficulty system. There is no single difficulty menu with one setting in it: Challenge Level, Enemy Health, Enemy Damage and Stealth Awareness are separate sliders, and each of them moves through five steps. Post-launch guides that read the shipped menu agree on the five steps and their order, from the most forgiving to the most demanding: The Man, The Hunter, The Mutant, The Weapon and The Best There Is, each name drawn from something the comics have called the character. On The Man, Logan cannot be knocked out. One guide adds that each preset sets three underlying values for enemy aggression, damage and health, and describes The Mutant as the intended balance; that detail is single-source. Insomniac's own published list names the settings but not the five steps, so the labels are community-reported rather than studio-published wording. The setting has no bearing on trophies: post-launch guides confirm that every trophy, the Platinum included, can be earned on The Man.17+This is the largest category and it doubles as the game's difficulty system. Game director Mike Daly has explained the chase trail on the record as the classic objective trail, actualised in game as Wolverine catching a scent. As of September 21, 2026, checked against the studio's published options list and its support pages, the product page and its FAQ, no official material states whether Chase Assist also removes that trail, and no separate toggle for it appears in the published list. See Combat.2121Motion sensitivity2323This group mixes camera behaviour with render effects, so several of the entries double as graphics settings rather than accessibility ones. Film grain, motion blur, chromatic aberration, and depth of field can all be switched off individually.2525OptionWhat it doesStatusMotion Sensitivity PresetApplies a preset that sets several motion options at once.ReturningFullscreen EffectsToggles damage vignettes, intense flashing, and other effects that cover large parts of the screen.ReturningMotion BlurToggles the blur created by camera movement and fast-moving objects.ReturningFilm GrainAdjusts the intensity of the film grain effect.ReturningChromatic AberrationToggles the coloured fringing that appears around slightly shifted, out-of-focus objects.ReturningDepth of FieldToggles the blurring of objects away from the camera focal point.ReturningLook SensitivityAdjusts camera sensitivity while looking around.ReturningInvert Look ControlSets the look controls to inverted or standard.ReturningCamera ShakeAdjusts the intensity of on-screen camera shake.ReturningCamera Rotation EffectsAdjusts the additive camera rotation applied during traversal, combat, and other gameplay.NewCamera FollowSets whether the camera adjusts automatically while running, and how quickly.ReturningCombat Camera Rotation AssistRotates the camera automatically to help keep enemies in view during combat.ReturningCenter DotTurns on a persistent dot in the middle of the screen as a focal point.ReturningCenter Dot SizeSmall, Medium, or Large.NewCenter Dot ColorSets the colour of the centre dot.NewCenter Dot OpacityLight, Medium, Dark, or Full.New2727Visual assists2828The colour customisation entries here are the most useful group for anyone who has trouble separating combat cues. Insomniac says it is exploring toggleable options for Senses in a future update; no such toggle has shipped, and the colour options above remain the only Senses controls in the published list. See Enhanced Senses and Updates and Patch Notes.3333Audio assists3535The audio group is the largest source of new options after Gameplay Assists, and it covers three separate things: hearing accommodations, screen reader behaviour, and a set of content filters that have nothing to do with hearing at all.3737OptionWhat it doesStatusHearing PresetApplies a preset that sets several hearing options at once.ReturningMono AudioCombines all audio into a single output played through both speakers.ReturningVoice BoostAdjusts the mix so dialogue is clearer and more audible.ReturningScreen ReaderReads out on-screen text in menus, tutorials, and notifications.ReturningScreen Reader VolumeSets how loud the screen reader is.ReturningScreen Reader Speed100%, 150%, 200%, 300%, or 400%.NewScreen Reader VerbosityDefault or Minimal.NewScreen Reader RepeatControls whether the screen reader repeats an entry.NewScreen Reader Repeat Delay TimeSets how long the reader waits before repeating on idle.ReturningScreen Reader Repeat Delay ScaleDoubles the wait before each further repeat, starting from the time set above.ReturningAccessibility Audio CuesAdds audio cues that confirm a needed or a completed action.NewAccessibility Audio Cue VolumeSets how loud those cues are.NewHeartbeat AudioPlays a heartbeat sound, with matching vibration, for nearby enemies.NewAudio DescriptionPlays an additional audio track describing key visuals and actions during cinematics, in the selected voice language. Every category of object gets its own shader, and the enemy shader is subdivided across seven enemy types, which is a useful hint at how many distinct enemy classes the game runs. See Enemies and Factions.4242OptionWhat it doesStatusHigh Contrast PresetsFour presets that set a group of high contrast options at once.ReturningHigh Contrast Outlines FriendlyPuts a single solid colour outline on friendly characters.ReturningHigh Contrast Outlines EnemyPuts a single solid colour outline on enemy characters.ReturningHigh Contrast Outline ThicknessSets how thick the friendly and enemy outlines are.ReturningHigh Contrast Outline BrightnessSets how bright those outlines are.NewHero ShaderApplies a solid single-colour shader to Logan.ReturningAlly ShaderApplies a solid single-colour shader to allies.ReturningNPC ShaderApplies a solid single-colour shader to other characters.ReturningEnemy ShadersApplies a solid single-colour shader to enemies, and covers seven different enemy types separately.ReturningStory Critical ShaderApplies a solid single-colour shader to story critical items.ReturningCombat Interact ShaderApplies a solid single-colour shader to objects that can be used in combat.ReturningCollectible ShaderApplies a solid single-colour shader to collectibles.ReturningHigh Contrast BackgroundToggles a high contrast background so some elements read more clearly.ReturningHigh Contrast Shader Fill OpacitySets how far the shaders override a character's natural colours.New4444Violence customization4545This category is new. Insomniac describes the game as unapologetically violent and gory by nature of the character, and added the violence and adult language toggles so players could choose how much of that they see and hear. The blood, the dismemberment, and the state of Logan's own body as his healing factor works are all separate controls.4747OptionWhat it doesStatusViolence PresetSome or Full. Sets Dynamic Blood, Dismemberment, and Visceral Healing together.NewDynamic BloodToggles blood from impacts, in gameplay and in cinematics.NewDismembermentToggles dismemberment. Gameplay drops it entirely and cinematics blur it.NewVisceral HealingSets how much physical damage is shown on Logan's body in gameplay and cinematics.New4949Visceral Healing is the one to know about if you are reading these options for gameplay reasons rather than comfort ones: it governs how visibly Logan carries damage, which is the visual side of the system covered under Rage and Healing Factor. The Profanity Filter in the audio group is the adult language half of the same design decision.5050Subtitles and captions5252Subtitles and captions are configured separately, and both carry a full set of size, colour, and direction controls. The direction indicators are the notable pair. They point toward the source of a line or a sound, either for everything or only for sources that are off screen.5454OptionWhat it doesStatusSubtitlesToggles dialogue text at the bottom of the screen.ReturningSubtitle SizeSets the size of subtitles.ReturningSubtitle ColorSets the subtitle text colour.ReturningSubtitle Speaker ColorSets the colour used for the speaker name.ReturningSubtitle Background ColorSets the background colour behind subtitles.ReturningSubtitle Background OpacitySets how opaque that background is.ReturningSubtitle Direction IndicatorsShows direction indicators during gameplay, either for every subtitle or only for off-screen speakers.NewSubtitle Direction Indicator ColorSets the colour of those indicators.NewCaptionsToggles text for important sound effects and music, in gameplay and in cinematics.ReturningCaption SizeSets the size of captions.ReturningCaption ColorSets the caption text colour.ReturningCaption Background ColorSets the background colour behind captions.ReturningCaption Background OpacitySets how opaque that background is.ReturningCaption Direction IndicatorsShows direction indicators for every caption or only for off-screen sources.NewCaption Direction Indicator ColorSets the colour of those indicators.NewMusic Caption ColorSets the colour used for music captions.New5656Controller and layout5757Alongside remapping, this category holds the vibration and trigger controls, so it is where you go to soften the DualSense feedback rather than turn it off wholesale. Platform-level controller support is covered on Technical Features and Performance.5959OptionWhat it doesStatusController RemappingChanges the controller layout using presets or a custom mapping.ReturningShortcutsAssigns an action to each of the four directional buttons. The assignable actions are listed below.ReturningAdaptive TriggersSets the force and tension applied when pressing L2 and R2. Arrives with the launch update on disc copies.6464Language support6565The Screen Reader supports English, French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, Castilian Spanish, and Japanese. Every language other than English and Japanese arrives with the launch update on disc copies rather than shipping on the disc itself. Audio Description covers the same seven languages and plays in whichever voice language you have selected, and it is also an update feature on disc.6767The Profanity Filter is the exception to all of this. It is available for US English only, and it both silences the spoken word and masks it on screen with asterisks.6969Platform features such as PS5 Pro support, haptics, and Photo Mode itself are covered on Technical Features and Performance.
