Initial version (2026-09-08)
Iceflake Studios is the Finnish studio developing LEGO Skylines. It is an internal studio of Paradox Interactive, the game's publisher, and it is registered formally as Iceflake Studios Oy.
The studio was founded in Tampere, Finland, in 2007 by Lasse Liljedahl and Tapani Valkonen. Before founding it, the pair had worked together on a game modification called FinnWars. The studio's early commercial output was small mobile work covering golf, pool, a puzzle game and a platformer, and its first release outside mobile followed in 2016.
Paradox Interactive announced it was acquiring the studio in July 2020, making it the publisher's ninth internal studio at the time. It has been a Paradox studio ever since.
Title | Year | Notes |
|---|---|---|
FinnWars | Pre-2007 | A game modification made by the studio's founders before Iceflake Studios existed. |
Ice Lakes | 2016 | The studio's first release outside mobile. |
Surviving the Aftermath | 2021 | A post-apocalyptic colony builder, published by Paradox Interactive after a period in early access. |
Unannounced | The studio's current project, revealed in August 2026. |
The studio introduced itself and the project in the first episode of a developer video series, published on 8 September 2026. Lasse Liljedahl appears in it as studio manager and game director, and he is the only team member named so far.
Two things he said are worth recording. The first is that the team has been working on the game for five years, or a little more than that, which is a long run for a title that was only revealed in August 2026. The second is that a number of people on the team are LEGO fans themselves, and that the project has felt like a dream one for them.
He framed the appeal of the game directly. Most people, he suggested, carry around some version of a childhood wish to build an enormous LEGO street at home, and the game is a way to do exactly that without needing the room for it. Other team members appear in the same video without being named; they described the asset work as unlike a usual 3D pipeline, and said they expect players to be surprised by what some of the game's systems allow. None of them said what those systems are.
Team size has not been given, no staff member other than the game director has been named, and the engine the game runs on has not been stated. The studio has no reachable website of its own. Whether the developer video series continues on a fixed schedule, and what it will cover next, has not been announced beyond a general commitment to show more.
