Overview
Honkai: Nexus Anima is the only game in miHoYo's lineup that allows full protagonist customization. Players can modify their character's appearance and allocate stat points that affect how NPCs respond to them. The system was available in the Nexus Bond Test (first beta), though HoYoverse has acknowledged the beta options were limited and promised expansions for launch.
Appearance options
During the beta, players could customize:

Item | Description |
|---|---|
Gender | Female only during the Nexus Bond Test |
Body type | Adjustable |
Hairstyle | Multiple options |
Eyebrows, eyes, nose, ears | Individual facial feature adjustment |
Hair and eye colors | Decent variety of options |
Skin tones | Only 3 options, all light-skinned, one of the most criticized limitations |
Clothing | Basic options, with more planned for launch |
Beta testers noted the customization was "pretty lacking" compared to expectations, particularly the narrow skin tone range. HoYoverse's post-beta DevTalk confirmed expanded options are coming: additional appearances, clothing, accessories, and other customizable features.
Attribute system
At character creation, players distribute 10 points across three attributes:
Stat | Effect |
|---|---|
Strength | Affects dialogue options related to physical challenges and intimidation |
Charisma | Affects social interactions and persuasion dialogue |
Intelligence | Affects knowledge-based dialogue and puzzle solutions |
Four preset templates are available for quick allocation: Musclehead (Strength-heavy), Social Butterfly (Charisma-heavy), Prodigy (Intelligence-heavy), and Well-Rounded (balanced). The important detail: attributes remain adjustable throughout gameplay. They aren't locked at creation, so players can experiment without permanent consequences.
How attributes affect gameplay
Attributes primarily gate dialogue options. An NPC interaction might offer a Strength-based response ("force the door open"), a Charisma response ("convince the guard to let you through"), and an Intelligence response ("find the hidden mechanism"). Higher attribute values unlock more options, giving players different approaches to the same situations.
