11Visions are the central character-building system in Final Fantasy Resonance. They are items, crystallized essences of characters from this game's story and from across the mainline FINAL FANTASY series. Equipping one grants a party member that character's power in combat. Square Enix presents the system as the evolution of the series' Job system: each Vision works like an equippable job, while the abilities it teaches can travel into other setups.2233What Visions Are4455A Vision is an item holding the crystallized essence of a character. Completing events involving characters you meet throughout the story gives you the chance to obtain their Vision. Equip it to Rain or any other party member to raise that member's stats and unlock the skills and magic the Vision carries.6677Each character can equip only one Vision at a time, and official materials stress that deciding who wears which Vision can greatly influence the outcome of battle. The party fields up to four members, and the developers noted that equipped Visions appear behind their wearers in battle, so a full formation can show eight figures on screen.8899Visions act as helpers rather than travelling companions. The developers said Visions do not hold conversations with the main cast: they lend their strength in battle while the story stays with Rain and the people around him.10101111Obtaining Visions12121313Visions of legacy FINAL FANTASY heroes wait inside the Sanctums of Light, the vision crystal sanctums erected across the world. Sanctums of Light is the official English name for them, and the Japanese term reads literally as a shrine of light. Stepping into a sanctum lets you revisit stories from the original games and unlock the hero's Vision.14141515Visions tied to this game's own cast follow a different route. They come from character events, side quests, and deepening bonds, and some are earned through battles.16161717Everything is earnable in-game. The producer said there is no DLC for Visions: keep playing and every one of them comes within reach. That marks a deliberate break from the source material. Final Fantasy Resonance rebuilds the first story arc of FINAL FANTASY BRAVE EXVIUS, a mobile game that handed out its characters through a gacha, and the gacha is gone entirely here.18181919Affinity and Abilities20202121Fighting battles with a Vision equipped strengthens your affinity with it. As affinity grows, the Vision unlocks new abilities and skills for the character wearing it.222223232424Learned abilities outlive the Vision that taught them. Once a character learns an ability, it stays equippable even while a different Vision is active, as long as the full set fits within a cost limit. Abilities from multiple Visions can sit on one character at the same time, and certain combinations produce strong synergies. Official materials name Dualcast, which allows consecutive spellcasting, and Spellblade Dual Wield as examples. In preview builds, characters carried up to eight ability slots. The wider progression loop, including Mastery Ranks and permanent stat boosts, is covered at Abilities and Mastery.25252626Square Enix calls the result a more accessible, evolved take on the series' familiar Job system. Official build examples include handing a high-attack character an offense-focused Vision, or chasing a spellblade build with a Vision versed in magic. The producer said party preparation before battle carries the same weight it did in the source game, and that the battle system is tuned so every Vision character has a place where it shines.27272828Awakening Visions29293030Affinity is not the only way a Vision grows. Magicite gathered on the journey can be spent to awaken one, which grants it stronger abilities along with higher-level skills and magic. Awakening runs in three stages, and each stage demands higher-grade magicite to draw out greater power.31313232Magicite is a limited resource, which turns awakening into a decision rather than a checklist: Square Enix's own framing is that choosing which Visions to awaken is a choice you have to make. It turns up in dungeons, lying inside treasure chests, and as a reward for defeating certain powerful monsters, the Mighty Foes that preside over the caverns dotted across the land. The system is covered in full at Vision Awakening.33333434One further point has been observed in official gameplay footage without being stated by Square Enix: Visions appear to carry passive perks alongside their active abilities, and to level up much as the main characters do. As of 12 September 2026 it has not been confirmed in writing, so treat it as an observation of what the footage shows rather than as documented system behavior.35353636Resonance Attacks373738-Each Vision powers a unique Resonance attack, the system's signature payoff. Stagger every enemy on the field to trigger a sweeping stagger, and at the end of the resulting bonus phase one party member can unleash the Resonance of their equipped Vision. Only one Resonance can be used per sweeping stagger, so the pick matters. The full stagger loop is explained at Stagger System.38+Each Vision powers a unique Resonance attack, the system's signature payoff. Only one Resonance can be used per sweeping stagger, so the pick matters. The full stagger loop is explained at Stagger System.39394040Resonances come in many forms. Some deal heavy damage, some hit every enemy at once, and others apply buffs or heals. Each one plays a cinematic sequence unique to its Vision, and the legacy heroes' sequences render in full 3D.41414242Limit Bursts are a separate payoff, and the two are easy to mix up. A Limit Burst belongs to the party member rather than to the equipped Vision: each character fills a limit gauge by staggering an enemy or by taking damage, then spends it on a powerful attack or, in some cases, on a boon that aids the rest of the battle. A Resonance instead draws on the equipped Vision and carries the stricter trigger above, every enemy staggered in the same turn. Onion Knight's kit connects the two directly, since his magic deals more damage the fuller the limit gauge is. See Limit Bursts for the gauge in detail.43434444Design and Presentation45454646The developers built every Vision's ability kit from zero for this game. Signature moves survive, Cloud's Cross-slash among them, but each character's preferred elements and ability types were redesigned around this battle system rather than imported from their home games. The producer said the creators of the numbered titles reviewed how their characters were handled and approved it.47474848The first time you call a legacy hero into battle, the game plays a short movie explaining that character's original game, giving newcomers context before the fight carries on.49495050Roster51515252In total, 26 Visions appear. The producer said 16 of them are legacy heroes, one for each numbered title from FINAL FANTASY I through XVI, with FINAL FANTASY XI represented by Shantotto and FINAL FANTASY XIV by Y'shtola. The rest are story-side Visions such as Charlotte, Leah, and Tronn. As of 12 September 2026, twenty-five of the 26 have been individually named. Noctis and Onion Knight arrived in mid-August 2026, and the August 24, 2026 information release closed the legacy side completely by naming Firion, Vaan and Lightning as the representatives of FINAL FANTASY II, XII and XIII. The same release added five more story-side Visions: Amelia, Camille, Wilhelm, Victoria and Ayaka. Square Enix also publishes the whole legacy mapping in one place: the official Japanese character page carries a sixteen-slot sprite gallery captioned with an entry title and a character name for each slot, running from FINAL FANTASY through FINAL FANTASY XVI. One Vision from this game's cast was still unnamed as of 12 September 2026. Every individually named Vision is tracked at List of Visions.53535454Vision Crystals55555656Square Enix's July 16, 2026 wording gives the system its object name: a Vision fights alongside Rain and his companions when their vision crystal is equipped. Japanese material describes a vision crystal as a specific character's feelings in crystallized form, which is why equipping one lends you that character's power rather than summoning the character themselves.57575858AspectWhat Square Enix has confirmedWhere crystals come fromVisit the Sanctums of Light erected around the world. Character events during the story are the other confirmed route. What equipping grantsUse of that Vision's magic and abilities. How they growThe stronger your bond with a Vision grows, the more of its abilities you unlock.Resonance triggerStaggering all enemies in one turn lets you trigger a Resonance with a Vision and perform an exceptionally devastating attack. How they awakenMagicite spent on a Vision awakens it in three stages, each stage requiring higher-grade magicite. Magicite is limited, and it comes from dungeon treasure chests and from defeating certain powerful monsters.5959The bond wording is worth reading precisely: ability unlocks are tied to using a Vision in battle, not to a shop or a currency. That makes Vision choice a commitment rather than a per-fight swap, and it is the mechanic the Colosseum is explicitly built to test.
