The FITS System

Corrected FITS count to four per character, added between-battle swapping rule and priority skin system
The FITS system is a new customization feature introduced in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. By equipping unique outfits, party members gain new movesets that evoke classic Final Fantasy job archetypes, adding a fresh layer of flexibility to the battle system.
FITS stands for Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear. Rather than changing who a character is, an outfit reshapes how they fight, swapping in a themed set of abilities so players can tailor each hero to a preferred playstyle.
The reveal highlighted outfits that channel iconic jobs from across the Final Fantasy series. Official examples include a Black Mage set focused on offensive magic and a Warrior set focused on physical power.
FITS Outfit | Playstyle Shown |
|---|---|
Warrior | Physical, close-range power, shown on Cloud Strife in the reveal. |
Black Mage | Offensive spellcasting, shown on a party member in the reveal. |
The pairings are deliberately not locked to a character's usual archetype. The director's own example is Cloud Strife, normally a close-range fighter, equipping the Black Mage set so that he keeps fighting up close while also attacking at range with magic.
The director has clarified that the appearance-only skins some players want are a separate feature from FITS. A FITS outfit changes how a character fights, while cosmetic skins are handled on their own. The system is positioned as the Remake trilogy’s take on the long-running Final Fantasy job tradition.
Each party member has four FITS to choose between. The director has said every one of the four fills a clearly defined role, and that the set adds a broad range of strategy to the battle system despite the modest count. He has framed the number as a consequence of what modern development costs: older Final Fantasy games could ship twenty or thirty jobs, but building that many to a current standard for a standalone release is, in his words, "just insanely difficult" outside of an ongoing title that adds them a few at a time. With a large cast to cover, four apiece still amounted to a great deal of work.
FITS are changed between battles rather than during them. The director has explained that the hybrid battle system already asks players to switch between party members mid-fight, and letting them swap jobs at the same moment risked making encounters too complicated to read. A party's job composition is therefore a decision made before a fight starts.
