Cygnus Cross

Created the studio page: leadership titles with their dates, the unresolved Cork and Cali question, technology stack and development milestones
Cygnus Cross is the independent studio behind Emberville, and is both its developer and its publisher. There is no third-party publisher involved. The company is registered as Cygnus Cross International Ltd., and Emberville is its debut project. The name comes from the constellation Cygnus, which the studio describes as a symbol of journeys across the unknown.
Its own description of itself is short: a small, independent team with a focused approach, high standards, and ambitions for Emberville that are anything but small. No headcount has been published. Roughly a dozen first names appear across the development updates, which is not the same thing as a team size, and most of those people are named by first name only.
There are two first-party answers to this and they do not agree.
Answer | What supports it |
|---|---|
Cork, Ireland | All three of the studio's own press releases, dated January, March and July 2026, carry a Cork, Ireland dateline. The press kit's fact sheet footer reads Cygnus Cross International Limited, and the storefront's legal notice names Cygnus Cross International Ltd. |
Cali, Colombia | The studio's own website says Cygnuscross Studio was founded by Brynjar Eli Gigja in Cali, Colombia, and elsewhere describes itself as an independent studio based in Colombia. |
Cork is considerably the better attested of the two. Both statements come from the studio itself, nothing published reconciles them, and the obvious reconciliation is stated by nobody, so this wiki records both rather than picking one. For the same reason no company founding year is treated as confirmed here.
Name | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Brynjar Gígja | Founder, CEO and Lead Game Director | The title used in the studio's July 2026 press release. The studio's website renders the name Brynjar Eli Gigja and its team listing gives the shorter title Game Director. Both renderings are first-party. |
CohhCarnage | Emberville Co-founder and Co-Game Director | The title used in the July 2026 press release, in the same sentence that names Brynjar Gígja as Founder, CEO and Lead Game Director. A store post of 29 November 2024 called him the studio's Executive Producer, so treat that as an earlier title rather than a competing one. No first-party source spells his surname, so the handle is used here. He is also a member of the cast, and his streamed showcases have been the game's main public moments. See Voice Cast. |
Greg Dombrowski | Composer | Writes Emberville's original score. Founder of Secession Studios. |
Alex Jordan | Voice Acting Director | Directs the performance and also appears in the cast. |
Development updates additionally credit pixel artists, concept artists, animators, engineers, a technical artist, a sound designer and composers, generally by first name. This wiki does not invent surnames for them.
Area | Tooling |
|---|---|
Engine | Unity. |
Audio | Wwise, used for the game's sound delivery. One example the team shared was attaching a river's sound emitter to the player rather than to the river. |
Pixel art | Drawn in Aseprite, then assembled with Unity prefabs, atlases and sorting layers. Character creation means hand-drawn animations for every combination, which is why the sprite workload grows with the game. |
Art direction | Two-dimensional pixel art in an isometric presentation, described by the studio as dark fantasy. |
Wishlist and audience figures are volatile, so each is dated to when the studio published it.
Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
2023 | Emberville has been in development since 2023. The studio's video channel was created in January 2023 and the first store announcement followed in November. |

22 December 2025 | A second streamed showcase. |
19 February 2026 | A showcase trailer carrying the first cast reveal. |
4 February 2026 | Over 280,000 wishlists, the most recent figure published. |
9 March 2026 | Appeared in The MIX showcase during GDC week, with new gameplay including character customization, extended combat and the inventory and stats screen. |
12 March 2026 | Appeared at FGS Live during GDC week. |
24 and 25 July 2026 | First public playable build, on the GCX show floor, with five cast members present. |
27 October 2026 | Early Access opens. See Early Access. |
The studio calls its community the Embers, a name that came out of the community itself in August 2025. It runs an unusually open development process for a studio this size: weekly short development updates, monthly write-ups, community art challenges, and a Discord server where it says it intends to host live development stages through Early Access.
