The service behind Embers of the Uncrowned is split into two nested layers. An Area is a regional grouping with its own local clock, and a Realm is an individual server inside an Area. NEXON stated the relationship directly during the Steam Next Fest demo: a Realm refers to a server within an Area. Everything that needs a shared population, from a competitive ranking to a character list, is scoped to a Realm rather than to the game as a whole.
Areas Used in the Demo
Four Areas ran during the demo week, each on its own local time. The staggered start times mattered because the demo opened simultaneously in absolute terms but at very different hours of the local day, which is why NEXON had to publish an Area-by-Area schedule for its timed events.
Area | Time Zone | Offset |
|---|---|---|
US-Central | CDT | UTC-5 |
Brazil | BRT | UTC-3 |
Germany | CEST | UTC+2 |
Hong Kong | HKT | UTC+8 |
These four cover the Americas, Europe, and East Asia, and they line up with the six supported languages listed on the store page. NEXON has not said whether the same four Areas carry into the full release or whether more are added, and no Area list beyond the demo has been published.
What a Realm Governs
Scope | Behaviour |
|---|---|
Character slots | Character creation is capped per Realm. Hitting the cap returns a Realm-specific message rather than an account-wide one. |
Rankings | Competitive rankings are contested against other players in the same Realm. The demo ranking event for Defense of the Spring awarded mounts by Realm standing, finalized daily at 05:00 Area time. |
Event schedules | Timed events roll over on Area local time, so a daily reset lands at a different absolute moment in each Area. |
Server naming | Individual Realms carry short codes. DE01 was named in a demo-week outage notice, which suggests a country-code plus index pattern. |
Regional Access
NEXON has been explicit that the game is aiming for a global service and that it applies no region-specific access restrictions to Russia. Connection errors reported from some Russian regions during the demo were treated as a fault to investigate rather than as intended behaviour, and players were asked to report their region, provider, and error message so the team could trace it.
That statement is worth reading alongside the one restriction the project does have: the Steam store page and the official website are blocked in South Korea. See Platforms and Release for the detail on that.
Connection Faults Seen in the Demo
Realm-level problems surfaced quickly once the demo opened. The DE01 server drew a dedicated notice for a connection issue that produced error codes -68 and -70, and a separate fault prevented players on some operating system configurations from connecting at all (error code 10009) until the June 19 maintenance fixed it. Both were Realm or client-side infrastructure faults rather than game-design decisions, and neither has been reported since the demo closed.
What Is Not Published
No Realm count per Area, no population caps, no character-slot number, no character transfer or Realm merge policy, and no cross-Realm play rules have been announced. Whether guilds and the faction warfare described in NEXON post-demo development plans will be Realm-scoped or Area-scoped is also unstated. This page will expand as the service structure is detailed ahead of launch.
