From a young age Leopold's mastery of bloodline magic was unparalleled. He shared his warmth with retainers and commoners alike, and was loved like a sun shining upon Goldenhaven. He was the heir House Harborwell needed, the lord the city expected, and the future the pro-monarchy faction had been preparing for since Valdemar first rose to the grand lord's seat.
At the age of fifteen Leopold suffered a tragic accident that claimed the use of his legs. He remained unshaken. If anything, his indomitable will only refined his prowess as a bloodline mage. Even from his wheelchair, his unwavering charisma commanded the absolute trust of his people.
Leopold was the keeper of the Book of Rites, the crown jewel of the family and the heart of House Harborwell. The Book of Rites bestows immense power and knowledge upon its reader, and Leopold was a rare type of bloodline mage even within the Harborwell line: he could forcibly imbue others with power through the Book. It was this ability that made the royal family hold House Harborwell in such high regard.
As a dependable eldest brother, Leopold had always supported and cherished the youngest sibling, the illegitimate child the family had sent away to mercenary work. Following Valdemar's death he summoned the youngest back to Goldenhaven to protect the family's legacy. The succession ceremony at the heart of the city was to be the moment House Harborwell formally regrouped under his lordship.
Instead, Bella walked through the ceremony's open gates. Within seconds the halls filled with blood and screams instead of cheers. Leopold's head fell, and tidal waves conjured by elven magic devoured the Goldenhaven fortress. The lord beloved by Goldenhaven lost his life on his most brilliant day, with the Book of Rites in his grip. Bella vanished with it.
Leopold is designed with dark, chin-length hair, prominent cheekbones, and a sharp gaze. Though his build is lean, he carries a quiet strength and an overwhelming presence even from his wheelchair. His attire centers on the Harborwell colors of orange and gold, featuring a luxurious white cloak draped elegantly over his seat.
The Book of Rites hovers above his left hand and emits a brilliant golden glow, serving as a symbol that he was not merely a lord but a masterful mage as well.
Leopold's death is the moment the kingdom realizes the elven invasion is total war. With the Book of Rites in elven hands and the heir killed in his own succession ceremony, the pro-monarchy faction has no head. The only surviving Harborwell is the youngest, the player, who must take up the role Leopold never got to fill. The campaign to rebuild the House is, in part, the campaign to be the lord Leopold would have been.
