The Shepherd is a dog pet in Crimson Desert. It is found in the southern regions of Pywel, with a particularly reliable spawn point at the soldier encampment near Hernand's North Gate. Like all pets, the Shepherd is obtained by raising its trust to 100 through petting and feeding. Once registered, the Shepherd follows Kliff on adventures and automatically collects loot dropped by defeated enemies and resources from the environment.
Shepherds are large, robust dogs with thick coats, originally bred for herding and guarding livestock. In Crimson Desert, they can be adopted as pet companions through the standard trust-building process. Their association with the soldier encampment suggests they serve as guard or working dogs in the game world.

Taming a dog in Crimson Desert follows the standard pet taming process:
Locate the dog in the overworld. Dogs can be found wandering settlements, roads, and encampments.
Approach the dog and hold the interaction button to pet it. Each petting interaction grants +5 trust, up to 5 times per in-game day (+25 total from petting).
Drop food on the ground near the dog by opening your inventory and placing a food item. The dog will eat it, gaining trust based on the food's quality.
Fine Meat grants the highest trust bonus for dogs. Feed the dog up to 3 times per day for maximum daily progress.
Repeat petting and feeding across multiple in-game days until trust reaches 100.
Once at maximum trust, interact with the dog and hold the button to select "Take In" to permanently register it as your pet.
With optimal feeding (Fine Meat) and full daily petting, a dog can be tamed in as few as two in-game days. Using lower-quality food will extend the process.
Shepherds have a more limited distribution compared to common breeds like the Beagle and Boardhound:
Hernand North Gate: The most reliable spawn point. Shepherds can be found at the soldier encampment near Hernand's North Gate, hanging around the guards and soldiers stationed there.
Southern Pywel: Shepherds have been reported in other settlements throughout the southern regions of Pywel.
If a Shepherd is not at the North Gate encampment, leave the area and return after some time to refresh the animal spawns.
Once registered, summon the Shepherd from the Pets tab in the inventory menu. Only one pet can be active at a time.
Pets automatically pick up loot from defeated enemies and gather resources in the environment, saving time during exploration and combat.
Pet Armor can be equipped on the Shepherd for cosmetic changes. Pet armor is purely visual and provides no stat bonuses.
You can register up to 30 pets total. If you reach the cap, you must release an existing pet before adopting a new one.
The Hernand North Gate encampment is easily accessible during the early game. Start building trust with a Shepherd while completing quests in the Hernand area.
Shepherds are one of the less common dog breeds. Plan multiple visits to the North Gate to complete the taming process.
