Research knowledge is gathered by interacting with the world and completing requests from lead researchers at regional institutes. Increasing your research knowledge unlocks new crafting recipes, blueprints, and special items.

Getting Started with Research

Each region has its own research institute. To begin, find the lead researcher and complete their initial request to unlock that region's research tree. Once unlocked, you can start basic research and begin gathering knowledge.

How to Gather Knowledge

Knowledge is not gained through combat. Instead, you earn it by interacting with the world:

• Talk to researchers scattered around the region. Each one has specific questions or problems.

• Observe objects and structures in the overworld when prompted. Some knowledge comes from simply examining your surroundings.

• Repair machinery or solve small environmental puzzles that researchers point you toward.

• Complete researcher requests to progress through the research tree and unlock advanced tiers.

Research Progression

Every institute follows the same structure. Complete the initial request to unlock the tree, then work through basic research, gather knowledge from the area, unlock advanced tiers, and return to the researcher to continue. Each tier requires more knowledge than the last.

Costs and Time

Research projects cost silver and take several hours of in-game time to complete. You can speed this up by using the Skip Time feature; sleeping at a camp or bed advances the clock. Make sure you have enough silver saved before starting an expensive project.

Rewards

Completed research projects reward you with crafting recipes, blueprints, and special items. Some recipes unlock new equipment that cannot be obtained any other way. Higher-tier research gives better rewards.

Tips

• Check each region's institute as you explore new areas. Starting research early gives you more time to accumulate knowledge passively.

• Use the Skip Time feature to fast-forward through research wait times instead of running around.

• Talk to every NPC near an institute; they often have requests that award knowledge.
