Overview

Abyss Artifacts are the primary progression resource in Crimson Desert. Comparable to skill points in other RPGs, these fragments of raw power from the Abyss allow players to unlock new abilities, enhance existing skills, and grow their combat potential.

Finding Artifacts

Abyss fragments fall from the floating realm above Pywel, scattering across the landscape. Players locate them using a unique sword light-reflection mechanic — holding the blade up causes it to reflect ambient light toward nearby fragment locations. This creates an organic exploration loop as players follow light trails to discover hidden artifacts.

Acquisition Methods

• Fragment Discovery — Find scattered fragments in the open world using the sword-light mechanic

• Boss Defeats — Powerful enemies drop high-value artifacts upon defeat

• Quest Completion — Story missions and side quests reward artifacts

• Liberation Missions — Freeing occupied settlements from enemy factions yields artifact rewards

• Abyss Dungeons — Venture into the Abyss itself for the most powerful fragments

Sealed Abyss Artifacts

Special sealed variants of artifacts offer enhanced benefits beyond standard fragments. These rarer items require additional challenges to unlock but provide significantly more powerful ability upgrades. Sealed artifacts are typically found in dangerous locations or hidden within complex puzzle sequences.

Using Artifacts

Artifacts function as a currency for the skill system. Players spend them to unlock new abilities from their skill tree or enhance existing ones. Many unlocked abilities serve dual purposes — useful in both combat and environmental puzzle-solving.

Connection to the Abyss

Artifacts originate from the Abyss, a mysterious floating realm above Pywel containing raw magical power. Various factions seek to exploit this power, including teleporting assassins who use it for destructive purposes. Players eventually venture into Abyss Dungeons to obtain the most powerful artifacts directly.
