Initial article on the Frontier faction
The Frontier is the military faction serving as Setera's first line of defense against the Void. Born from a mercenary background, the Frontier maintains a flexible organizational structure that values skill and adaptability over rigid hierarchy or sheer numbers. Commander Iobis, a former mercenary himself, shaped the organization to reflect these principles.
The Vanguard is the Frontier's elite special forces unit. The player begins the game as a member of the Vanguard, making it central to the early narrative. Known Vanguard members include:
Etheldrena — Vanguard commander who perishes during the prologue at the Ruins of Time, establishing the stakes of the Void threat.
Kaya — A snarky fixer and fellow Vanguard warrior. Found at the Citadel hub after the prologue.
Baldur — A stoic veteran warrior. Also present at the Citadel hub.
Alexios — A former member of the Chronos Order who was excommunicated for unknown reasons. Now serves with the Vanguard, bringing religious knowledge to a military role.
The Chronos Order is a separate religious organization devoted to Chronos, the god of time. Believed to have existed since time immemorial, the Order focuses on ensuring the well-being of common folk during the war against the Void. Alexios's excommunication from the Order and subsequent joining of the Vanguard suggests tensions between the military and religious factions on Setera.
The Frontier and Vanguard provide the player's organizational anchor in Setera's world. After being sent one year into the past by Velia, the player rejoins the Frontier with foreknowledge of the future — creating dramatic tension as they work to prevent events they know will lead to catastrophe.
