Mistwood Forest is a dense forest shrouded in perpetual mist, rising from a river's source on Setera. Towering trees cast deep shadows beneath thick canopies, and a powerful river flows through the heart of the region. An upstream waterfall fills the forest with constant ambient sound. The mist that gives the forest its name limits visibility and creates an atmosphere of isolation.
History
Mistwood Forest was historically a prosperous logging hub, valued for its high-quality timber and abundant wildlife. Settlements along the forest's edge supported a thriving woodcutting economy. When populations shifted and the World Movers arrived on Setera, the Outcasts claimed the forest as their own territory. The logging operations ceased. The settlements were either abandoned or repurposed.
Outcast control
The Outcasts guard Mistwood Forest fiercely, allowing no outsiders to trespass. They have established a territorial defense system that exploits the forest's natural advantages: the dense canopy reduces aerial visibility, the mist obscures movement at ground level, and the uneven terrain created by the river network makes large-scale military operations difficult. The Outcasts know the forest intimately and use that knowledge to ambush anyone who enters.
Unlike the Deathless who are actively hostile and expansionist, the Outcasts are purely defensive. They do not raid outside their territory or seek conflict. But anyone who enters Mistwood Forest, regardless of intentions, is treated as a threat.
Geography
Item | Description |
|---|---|
Canopy | Towering trees with thick branches create a near-continuous overhead cover, filtering sunlight into scattered shafts |
River | A major waterway flows through the forest, with an upstream waterfall as the source |
Mist | Perpetual ground-level mist reduces visibility significantly, especially at lower elevations near the river |
Wildlife | Historically abundant, though the Outcasts' presence has likely altered the ecological balance |
Exploration challenges
For players, Mistwood Forest represents a high-risk exploration zone. The mist limits the effectiveness of visual scouting. The Chronotector's Temporal Tuning ability may reveal hidden paths or past traces within the forest, but using it also means stopping to observe rather than watching for Outcast patrols. The combination of environmental hazards, limited visibility, and organized territorial defense makes Mistwood Forest one of the more demanding open-world areas.
