Character Creator
Chrono Odyssey features one of the most refined character creators in modern MMOs, with two body types (no gender-lock), deep facial customization including lateral cheekbone sliders and nasolabial angle meters, and post-CBT restrictions after players created grotesque characters.

Overview
Chrono Odyssey features what the developers describe as the "most refined character creator in a modern MMO", aiming to surpass even Black Desert Online's renowned customization system. None of the six classes are gender-locked, all classes are available to both body types. Players select one of two body types, then customize extensively using sliders, morph graphs, and preset systems across facial features, body composition, hair, cosmetics, and more.
Body Types
The character creator offers two selectable body types, labeled as "Body Type" rather than using gendered terminology. This labeling choice reflects a modern design approach where character appearance is decoupled from gender identity. Both body types have access to the full range of customization options and all six classes.
Facial Features
The face customization offers extraordinary granularity, with dedicated sliders and tools for precise control over every facial feature:
Cheekbones Two independent lateral sliders allowing precise bone structure shaping. Players can adjust each cheekbone independently, creating asymmetrical or highly defined facial structures.
Nose Three dedicated sliders controlling nostril shape, bridge width, and tip position. The level of nasal customization exceeds most character creators, enabling subtle ethnic variations and distinctive profiles.
Nasolabial Angle Meter A dedicated control for the relationship between the nose and upper lip. This specialized meter adjusts the angle at which the nose meets the face, affecting the overall facial profile in subtle but visually significant ways.
Additional sliders for eyes, eyebrows, jaw, chin, ears, and forehead. Each with multiple sub-parameters for fine-tuning
Body Customization
Tone Definition Controls for muscle definition and body fat distribution, allowing players to create characters ranging from lean and athletic to heavily muscled.
Bone Structure Presets Skeletal framework presets that adjust the underlying body proportions. These presets serve as starting points for body customization, with further refinement possible through individual sliders.
Appearance Options
Hair A wide array of hairstyles with color customization.
Skin Tone Comprehensive skin tone coloration with a broad spectrum of options.
Makeup Cosmetic overlays including various makeup styles.
Scars Battle scars and marks that can be placed on the face and body.
Tattoos Decorative tattoo patterns for additional character personality.
Presets
Expanded presets serve as starting points for players who prefer not to spend extensive time adjusting individual sliders. Presets cover different character archetypes and facial/body configurations, providing a polished baseline that can be further customized after selection. The preset system is designed to ensure that even players who spend minimal time in the creator end up with visually appealing characters.
Post-CBT Restrictions
During the June 2025 Closed Beta Test, many players used the creator's extensive freedom to build intentionally exaggerated or grotesque characters. The CBT1 community embraced the extremes of the slider system, producing characters with:
Neon-colored skin and hair in combinations not found in nature
Impossibly thick necks and distorted proportions
Deliberately awkward body compositions designed for comedic effect
Faces reminiscent of Oblivion's famously distorted character creator results
CEO Bong-Gun Bae was reportedly "shocked" by these creations. The development team had not anticipated the degree to which players would push the slider boundaries, and the resulting characters created a dissonant visual experience in the shared game world.
Following the CBT, the studio confirmed that future builds will impose "meaningful limitations" on how far sliders can morph the baseline character models. The stated reasoning is that while extreme customization freedom works well in single-player RPGs like Oblivion or Dark Souls (where only the individual player sees the result) a shared MMO world requires a baseline of visual coherence. When dozens of players gather in a hub city or during a World Boss encounter, wildly distorted characters disrupt the visual tone that the art team has carefully established.
The developers emphasized that the core customization depth will remain intact. Facial feature granularity (including the cheekbone sliders, nostril shape controls, and nasolabial angle meter) will be preserved. Body type options, hair styles, cosmetics, and the preset system will all remain. Only the extreme outer bounds of slider ranges will be restricted, preventing the most distorted results while preserving the meaningful customization that makes the creator exceptional. The freedom to be silly, in the developers' view, creates problems when imposed on a shared world that other players inhabit.
