Staray is a Kibo in Azur Promilia. It is one of five Kibo with an official Latin-script name, printed in capitals as STARAY on both the official Japanese and Chinese websites. Every region describes it as a strong glider that can attack with poison and cannot always keep that poison in check.

Description
The Japanese site says Staray can glide for long stretches on its large, powerful outspread wings and can scatter poison at will to attack enemies. When excited, it sometimes spreads poison without meaning to. The Chinese site gives the same description and adds that it may release poison when it is happy as well as when it is excited, and the Korean pre-registration page says the same.
The Korean community's encyclopedia entry, posted on April 29, 2026, adds a gentler side. Staray usually takes to people readily and becomes deeply attached to anyone it has bonded with. Touching it can still be dangerous: when it is in a good mood or excited, it secretes toxin from its crystal tail without realizing it.
Growth
A Korean observation post from April 30, 2026 names an earlier stage, 버니 만타, a small Kibo that takes off into the air easily. According to the post, Staray's confident flight is built on all the wingbeats of its 버니 만타 days. The post also warns that it can quickly shrivel if it leaves the water's edge, so anyone traveling with it should follow the waterside. Kibo growth stages in general are covered on the Kibo page.
Classification Differences
Japan and China place Staray in the scale-form clan of the aberrant-born kind, while Korea files it under the aquatic type of the aberrant line. The Korean system sorts Kibo by body type rather than by clan, so the difference reflects the systems, not a change to the creature. No English classification names have been announced as of October 2026.
Naming
The three local names have little in common. The Korean 스타 만타 and the Chinese 星鳐 both describe a starry ray, while the Japanese メテオール does not follow the Latin name at all. Staray is listed with the other named Kibo on Kibo List.
