Martial Arts and Cultivation
August 29, 2026 at 11:42 PM
Initial version (2026-08-29)
Character growth in 9 Yin Sutra: Wuxia is expressed through martial arts rather than through a conventional class or level system. The studio's stated principle is that there is no single highest peak, and that players define their own summit and become a grandmaster unlike any other.
System | Description |
|---|---|
Signature moves | Players master signature moves drawn from a hundred schools. |
Inner strength | Inner strength is cultivated as a distinct axis of growth. |
Meridians | Opening meridians unlocks even greater power. |
Rare martial arts | Withdrawing into the mountains to master rare martial arts is one of the paths the studio names explicitly. |
Each martial art is described as having its own techniques, rhythm, and style, so learning a new one changes how a character fights rather than only adding numbers.
Acquisition is at least partly social. The studio states that players who learn to read the people around them may find NPCs becoming invaluable allies, which ties progression directly into the world's NPC systems. See NPC Simulation.
Fighting is explicitly not the only route. Life in the jianghu is described as not defined by combat alone, and three alternatives are named: practising medicine and saving lives, forging peerless weapons, or pursuing a calling entirely of the player's own. Crafting and Building covers the making side of those.
Whether the hundred schools figure is literal or descriptive
Any named school, sect, style, or technique
Whether joining a sect is a formal mechanic
How meridians are opened, and whether the choice is permanent
Whether inner strength is a stat, a resource, or a separate tree
Level caps, respec options, or build limits
Whether martial arts have prerequisites or conflict with one another
Terms such as inner strength and meridians are standard across wuxia fiction and other martial-arts games, so it is easy to assume familiar mechanics behind them. Nothing about their implementation here has been published, and no outside game's version of these systems should be read onto this one.
