Vesselai are powerful warriors in Xenoblade Genesis who can wield Anima, the power that flows through the world. The Japanese term is 器士 (kishi), written with the characters for vessel and warrior, and the academy that trains them is named in Japanese as the Vesselai academy Leukos. The information here comes from the reveal trailer and reporting on it rather than Nintendo's product pages, so it should be treated as early.

Overview

The reveal presents Vesselai as a class of skilled fighters defined by their ability to channel Anima. Because the early material frames battles as being decided by Anima and those who can wield it, the Vesselai appear central both to the story and to whatever combat the finished game offers.

Training and Origins

According to the reveal, Vesselai are trained at an academy called Leukos, where students study to reach that calling. The protagonist, Eleanor, is shown on a journey to become a Vesselai, and at least part of the story follows her training there.

Weapons and Equipment

Vesselai fight with swords carrying an Anima crystone. The stone amplifies its bearer's power over Anima, which ties it closely to how a Vesselai fights, and it also records its bearer's life. The reveal shows a blade being handed over and then imbued with a stone, so the two appear to be joined rather than a single object. How any of this works as a gameplay system has not been explained.

What Is Not Yet Known

Whether Vesselai form a class system, how party roles work, and any specifics of their abilities in combat have not been detailed. The reveal shows only brief glimpses of action. Those mechanics are deferred until Nintendo provides a proper gameplay showing.
