Initial comprehensive article creation
Colhen is a small village that serves as the game's central hub. It's where the player arrives at the start of the story to join the Kalbram Mercenaries, and it remains the primary base of operations throughout the game. Most NPCs, services, and story-advancing conversations are concentrated here.
The town has a history of conflict. A Fomor invasion once destroyed much of it, but the villagers rebuilt. Now Colhen sits near the front lines separating human and Fomor territories, which explains both why it needs mercenaries and why the Royal Army should be more involved than it actually is.
Mercenary Headquarters: The mission board and the center of operations for the Kalbram Mercenaries. This is where you pick up missions, interact with Captain Aodhan and other key NPCs, and advance the main story.
Blacksmith (Graham): Weapon crafting and enhancement. Bring blueprints and materials to create new weapons or upgrade existing ones.
Boutique (Clodagh): Cosmetic customization through the Fitting Room. Change outfits, apply dyes, and adjust weapon skins.
Magic Laboratory (Brynn): The village mage's workspace, used for magic research and creating magical prototypes.
Inn (Ernmass and Tieve): Rest area and the AP shop, where players can purchase temporary buffs, upgrade materials, and dyes. Tieve also performs ancestral rituals here.
Traveler's Shop (Kirstie): General supplies and combat insights from a hunter who knows the surrounding wilderness.
The NPCs in Colhen are mostly returning characters from the original Vindictus, now brought to life with full voice acting and cinematic presentation. Captain Aodhan leads the mercenaries with calm authority. Marrec, his outspoken vice-captain, has personal ties to several villagers and openly feuds with the Royal Army's representative, Dame Gwynn. Tieve, the oracle of Morrighan, performs religious ceremonies at the inn and has close bonds with both Marrec and Clodagh.
Other residents include Brynn, the distant village mage who prefers written feedback over conversation; Kirstie, a fiercely independent hunter who was one of the first non-mercenary NPCs to assist in the field; and Ellis, a young Royal Army cadet who acts as a go-between for the military and the mercenaries.
Colhen is where you return between expeditions to upgrade gear, restock supplies, advance storylines, and switch characters at campsites. All weapon crafting and cosmetic customization happens in town. The mission board at the Mercenary Headquarters is the gateway to both story missions and repeatable content.
Unlike some RPGs where the hub town becomes irrelevant after the early hours, Colhen stays central because weapon crafting, the progression system's ability shops, and key NPC relationships are all anchored here. You will be coming back regularly.
