11Tree Types2233Trees are one of the most important natural resources on Starsand Island. Wood is needed for building, crafting furniture, upgrading tools, and constructing crafting stations. Different tree species yield different wood types, and each requires a specific tool tier to harvest. Fruit trees also serve as a renewable food source once planted and grown.4455Wood Categories6677There are four main wood types in the game. Each comes from different tree species and requires progressively better tools to harvest.8899Wood TypeSource TreesTool RequiredNotesSoftwoodCommon trees (palm trees, small deciduous trees)Stone AxeThe most basic wood type. Available everywhere from the start of the game. Used in early crafting recipes and basic construction.HardwoodBanyan trees (large trees with thick trunks)Impact AxeRequires the Impact Axe to harvest. Banyan trees are visually distinct with their wide canopies and thick root systems. Found in forested areas across the island.Premium WoodWhite Fig treesMacheteThe highest-quality wood on the island. White Fig trees have pale bark that makes them easy to spot. Requires the Machete, which becomes available at higher tool tiers.BambooBamboo stalks near Cloudrest LakeStone AxeTechnically a grass rather than a tree, but harvested the same way. Bamboo grows in clusters near water, particularly around Cloudrest Lake. Used in specific crafting recipes and some furniture.1010Where to Find Each Type11111212Softwood trees are scattered across the entire island. You will find them on beaches, near your farm, along paths, and in every biome. They are the most common tree type and respawn daily after being cut down.13131414Banyan trees (Hardwood) tend to cluster in the denser forest areas. Look for trees that are noticeably larger than the standard palms and deciduous trees. The Moonlit Forest and inland zones have higher concentrations of Banyan trees.15151616White Fig trees (Premium Wood) are rarer and mostly found in specific highland and forest zones. Their light-colored bark stands out against the surrounding vegetation. Since Premium Wood is used in high-tier crafting recipes, plan your gathering routes to include these areas.17171818Bamboo grows almost exclusively near Cloudrest Lake and other water sources. The stalks grow in tight clusters and are easy to harvest in bulk once you find a patch.19192020Tool Progression for Tree Harvesting21212222Your ability to harvest different tree types is gated by your tool progression. Here is the order you will unlock access to each wood type:23232424ToolDescriptionStone Axe (crafted early)Cuts Softwood trees and Bamboo. This is the first axe you craft and handles most of your early lumber needs.Impact Axe (mid-game upgrade)Required for Banyan trees (Hardwood). You will need this upgrade before you can access Hardwood for stronger building materials and crafting recipes.Machete (later upgrade)Required for White Fig trees (Premium Wood). The Machete is a dedicated cutting tool that also clears dense brush and vines.2525Fruit Trees26262727Beyond lumber, Starsand Island has a variety of fruit tree saplings you can plant on your farm. Fruit trees take several in-game days to mature but then produce fruit on a regular cycle without replanting.28282929Fruit TreeFruit ProducedNotesApple TreeAppleA versatile fruit used in cooking recipes. Apples can be eaten raw for a small energy boost or used in baked goods.Orange TreeOrangeProduces citrus fruit. Oranges are popular as cooking ingredients and NPC gifts.Banana TreeBananaTropical fruit tree well-suited to the island climate. Bananas are a solid raw food source and ingredient for smoothie recipes.Lychee TreeLycheeProduces the sweet lychee fruit. A favorite gift for several NPCs and useful in dessert recipes.Snow Pear TreeSnow PearYields pears that are used in cooking and as gifts. Snow Pears are one of the more valuable fruits for selling.Persimmon TreePersimmonProduces persimmons used in cooking and gifting. The tree has distinctive orange fruit when ready to harvest.Lemon TreeLemonCitrus tree that produces lemons for cooking recipes. Lemons are a key ingredient in several seafood dishes.Camellia TreeCamellia Seeds / Tea LeavesProduces seeds and leaves rather than edible fruit. Used for tea-making and oil production.Osmanthus TreeOsmanthus FlowersA flowering tree that produces fragrant blossoms. Osmanthus flowers are used in tea recipes and as decorative items.3030Fruit tree saplings can be purchased from shops or occasionally found as quest rewards. Once planted, they need regular watering until mature. After reaching full growth, fruit trees produce their harvest automatically each cycle and do not need to be replanted.31313232Tree Respawning33333434All wild trees on Starsand Island respawn daily. If you cut down every tree in an area, they will regrow the following in-game day. This means you never need to worry about permanently deforesting the island. Plan regular harvesting routes through tree-dense areas and you will always have a steady supply of every wood type.35353636Tips37373838TipDetailsPrioritize the Impact Axe upgradeHardwood is required for many mid-game crafting recipes and building upgrades. Getting access to Banyan trees early makes progression much smoother.Plant fruit trees as soon as possibleSince fruit trees take multiple days to mature, planting them early means free food and gift materials by the time you need them.Combine tree runs with foragingWhen you head out to chop trees, pick up mushrooms and other forageable items along the way. Many forest areas have both trees and ground-level pickups.Store extra wood in chestsWood does not spoil, so stockpile Softwood and Hardwood in storage for upcoming building projects. Running out of wood mid-construction is frustrating.Check tree types before choppingIf you only need Softwood, do not waste durability on your Impact Axe or Machete. Use the right tool for the right tree to conserve tool durability.
