Dragons

Initial version (2026-10-14)
Dragons are the center of Sagas of Lumin. The player rides one across the floating islands, fights from its back in the air and on the ground, and can leave it to fight on foot. This page covers the dragons themselves and how they fly; fighting from dragonback is covered on Aerial Combat. Status is marked throughout, because many dragon systems have been announced but not yet shown in a public build.
As of October 2026, three dragon species have been named.
Species | Source | Status |

The dragons shown so far have four legs and two wings. When a player praised that design, the developer said there would be many varieties of that kind and possibly different dragon types as well. In 2026 the CEO declined to list the types, saying the setting has many kinds of dragons that evolved in very different ways, and said earlier that the game would not be limited to Eastern-style dragons. Wing type and size vary by dragon type but, according to the developer, do not directly affect handling. The CEO has said different dragon races will have their own speed and flight dynamics.
Flight is fully manual. The dragon can climb, dive, hover, turn sharply and barrel roll. Below a certain speed it is pulled down by gravity, loses altitude and lands when it touches the ground; the developer has said this is intended. Speed comes from flapping the wings or from diving. The CEO has also said the dragon starts slow on purpose and becomes noticeably faster, with more aggressive controls, as it levels up.
The demo's controls are below. Keyboard keybinding was added in demo version 0.5, and the input system was overhauled on June 16, 2025 after players reported sluggish response.
Action | Keyboard and mouse | Controller |
|---|---|---|
Flap to gain speed | Hold Space | Hold A |
Slow down | CTRL | B |
Quicker maneuvers | Hold Shift while steering | Hold LB while steering |
Battle mode | Hold right mouse button | Hold L2 |
Dragon dodge | Q at launch, V from 0.2, ALT from 0.5 | X from 0.5 |
A camera inversion setting sat under Controls, then Gamepad. The March 2026 demo update added new landing and rising animations, and the roadmap promises enhanced flight animations and smoother controls.
Battle mode gives the rider more control when fighting over enemy camps. Holding it lets the dragon slow down or hover so the player can aim, and the developer recommended it for most camp fights. Its use in combat is covered on the aerial combat page.
In the demo the dragon had its own level. Its speed boost unlocked at dragon level 5, and the developer told one player that blasting Aerrocks would get them there. Players noted that the dragon and the rider leveled separately.
Eating prey restored the dragon's health. The demo tutorial asked players to catch birds, and patches added more birds and made them easier to catch.
Collisions with the environment could hurt the dragon, and from patch 0.22 the rebound after a collision depended on its speed.
Patch 0.35 added aerial mount rescue: summoning the dragon while falling lets the rider mount in mid-air and avoid fall damage.
The same patch let the dragon land in almost any viable spot and be summoned from almost anywhere on the ground.
The demo had dragon checkpoints, which were repositioned in patch 0.22.
In the demo, rescuing the Blacksmith in the first bandit camp let the player buy dragon armor and equip it. The CEO later called that armor a small glimpse of a larger system. The roadmap lists new armor sets and visual options, and in October 2026 the CEO said customization would cover accessories, armor and saddles, adding that many of the mounted dragons will be unique. In June 2025 the CEO also said there would be a special area for dragons tied to the game's main temple, which plays a part in the player's bond with them.
Dragon bonding is a roadmap feature, described as finding, taming and bonding with dragon companions. The developer explained the intended flow in June 2025: players first discover dragons, then defeat them in battle to capture them, can switch between the dragons they own, and build a separate bonding level with each one that grants different abilities. Skill trees with unlockable abilities are also on the roadmap. Dragons will have their own physical characteristics and genders. In 2025 the studio had not decided whether players could name them, but it said it planned interactions such as naming, accessorizing and feeding. None of this was in the demo.
The official setting text explains dragon riding through the Drairs, people who can control the minds of animals. Every Drair bonds with a dragon and they grow together. If the Drair falls behind in strength, the dragon may rebel. Because a Drair can control only one creature's mind at a time, replacing a dragon requires a dangerous transfer in mid-air.
