What We Know and What We Don't
September 12, 2026 at 02:32 PM
Updated internal link states after new pages were added (2026-09-12)
PHYSINT is a pre-production game with a very small public record, so a single page listing what has actually been confirmed and what has not is more useful than a set of thin topic pages. Everything below was checked on 2026-09-12.
Two rules govern this page. Every absence is an absence on that date, and nothing more: first-party silence is not a denial, and an item moving off the second table is expected rather than surprising. And nothing from Metal Gear, from OD, or from Death Stranding counts as a PHYSINT fact here, however often the three are discussed together.
Item | What is confirmed | First confirmed |
|---|---|---|
Developer | Kojima Productions Co., Ltd., an independent studio founded in Tokyo on 16 December 2015 | 31 January 2024 |
Creative lead | Hideo Kojima, Game Creator and Founder of the studio | 31 January 2024 |
Genre | Action-espionage, the studio's own term, used again in the September 2026 statements. Widely classified as stealth | 31 January 2024 |
Original IP | A new original IP, described at announcement as "a brand new, original IP" | 31 January 2024 |
Title status | A working title. Japanese material writes it with the provisional marker 仮 | 2024 |
Production plan | Preparations underway at announcement, with full production to start after Death Stranding 2: On the Beach | 31 January 2024 |
Cast | Charlee Fraser, Ma Dong-seok and Minami Hamabe, roles undisclosed | 23 September 2025 |
Key visual | One poster showing the main character with the face not shown, revealed at Beyond The Strand | 23 September 2025 |
Former publisher | Sony Interactive Entertainment, from announcement until a cancellation notice in mid-June 2026 | 10 September 2026 |
Publisher | Xbox, announced with statements from both companies. See Publisher History | 9 September 2026 |
Development state | Described as still early in September 2025 and as ongoing in September 2026. See Development Status | 10 September 2026 |
Each line below is a confirmed absence as of 2026-09-12, not a claim about what the answer will be.
Item | Status |
|---|---|
Platforms | Never announced by Kojima Productions, by Xbox, or by Sony Interactive Entertainment, in either the Sony era or the Xbox era |
Store listing | None exists on any storefront |
Release date, year or window | Never announced |
Game engine | Never revealed. The 2025 character model was described as output from an engine that had yet to be shown |
Premise, setting and plot | Never disclosed. Nothing has been said about where or when the game takes place |
Factions and locations | Never disclosed |
Character names | None disclosed. The one character shown in the key visual has no published name |
Cast roles | No role and no story function has been disclosed for any of the three announced actors |
Gameplay | No gameplay footage has ever been shown. All eight public assets are announcement videos, casting videos, a poster and a character model still. See Media and Assets |
Composer and staff credits | None beyond Hideo Kojima himself |
Exclusivity terms | Never stated by any party, in either direction |
Subscription or day one availability | Not mentioned in any statement |
Single player or multiplayer | Never stated. The game has never been described as single player by any first-party source |
Editions, pre-orders and price | Nothing announced |
Official website | No PHYSINT website or domain exists. The studio site carries the announcement but no product page for the game |
Reason for the change of publisher | Never given by any of the three parties involved |
These turn up regularly. None of them has a first-party statement behind it, and none of them should be written as a PHYSINT fact.
Claim | Status as of 2026-09-12 |
|---|---|
A specific platform line-up | Not announced. Published commentary has already asserted platforms, in at least one case in a headline. That is inference from the identity of the publisher. No party has announced a platform |
An expansion of what the title PHYSINT stands for | The studio has never explained the title. The expansion in circulation has no first-party statement behind it |
A named existing game engine | The engine has never been revealed. Named engines in circulation are circumstantial guesses |
A release around the end of the decade | Arithmetic performed on a May 2025 remark about remaining work, which predates the June 2026 cancellation and the gap after it. Never a release window |
Single player | Never stated by anyone |
Platform exclusivity, timed or permanent | Never stated by anyone, in either direction. A different Kojima Productions game was a timed exclusive; that is a different game |
A film studio attached to the project | Not confirmed. A 2024 reading of the announcement video was hedged when it was made and was tied to the Sony arrangement, which ended in 2026 |
Details taken from leaked documents | Leaked or reported material that no party has confirmed describes documents, not shipped content, and is not documented here |
Three bodies of work are routinely discussed alongside PHYSINT. None of them is PHYSINT content, and material from them does not belong on these pages.
Subject | Relationship to PHYSINT |
|---|---|
Metal Gear | Owned by Konami, which has no involvement in PHYSINT. Commentary calling PHYSINT a spiritual successor is about Kojima's career, not about shared characters, factions, systems, hardware or plot. None of that series belongs here |
OD | A separate Kojima Productions project, also published by Xbox. The September 2026 announcement described the PHYSINT arrangement as expanding the relationship "beyond OD" |
Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach | A different Kojima Productions series. Death Stranding 2 appears in PHYSINT statements only because it set the production schedule |
The genre framing, including the spiritual successor commentary and what it does and does not imply, is discussed on Genre and Influences. Kojima's own statements are collected on Hideo Kojima on PHYSINT.
This is a dated snapshot, not a standing verdict. Every negative on it should be re-checked against first-party sources rather than carried forward with a new date attached, because an absence verified on 2026-09-12 says nothing about any later date. The chronology it summarises is on Announcement and Reveal History.
