33 LumenTale: Memories of Trey does not use a single type effectiveness chart that every Animon follows. Instead, effectiveness is decided per species. Two Animon can share the exact same element and the same Hidden Type and still have different weaknesses. For example, Deniuli and Boobat are both Demon and Fire types, yet their individual strengths and weaknesses do not line up. Because of this, you cannot assume a creature's weaknesses from its element alone.

55 The practical takeaway is to treat every new species as its own puzzle. Knowing that something is a Water Animon tells you what kind of moves it can use, but the only reliable way to learn what it is weak to is to scan it in battle.

99 A Hidden Type is a potential second element on top of an Animon's main element. It is not known the moment you catch a creature. You discover it either by scanning the Animon or by leveling it up until it learns moves of a different element. Most of an Animon's move pool matches its two types, and it can occasionally learn moves outside both of them. Because the Hidden Type shifts the move pool and the matchups, two creatures of the same primary element can still play very differently.

1313 Scanning is the in-battle tool for reading an enemy. Depending on the target's level, one or two scans is usually enough to reveal all of its weaknesses. Three scans are needed to also expose its stats, its Hidden Type, and its evolution chart. Scanning consumes a turn, so plan around it rather than scanning blindly when you are under pressure.

2020 Once an Animon has been fully scanned, an indicator appears next to it whenever you hover over one of your attacks. A broken shield means the attack hits a weakness and will be more effective. A solid shield means the enemy resists that attack. Use these prompts to choose the right move instead of guessing.
