Overview
The Spear (also referred to as the Lance in some translations) is one of the four weapon types available within the Primal Flow fighting style in Honor of Kings: World. Officially described as "swift" by TiMi Studio Group, the Spear specializes in long-reach thrusting attacks that keep enemies at a safe distance. It has the longest range of any Primal Flow weapon, making it the preferred choice for players who value spacing and precision over raw damage or attack speed.
The Spear is available from the start of the game as part of the Flowborn's innate Primal Flow style. Players can switch to it freely during combat alongside the Ringblade, Sword, and Hammer.
Combat Characteristics
The Spear's primary strength is its reach. Its thrusting attacks extend further than any other Primal Flow weapon, allowing players to strike enemies while staying out of their melee range. This makes the Spear an excellent spacing tool, particularly against aggressive enemies that punish close-range positioning.
Each thrust carries forward momentum, giving the player a slight advance with every attack. This forward movement can be used to close distance gradually while keeping the weapon's tip between the player and the enemy. The Spear's attack speed falls between the Sword and the Hammer, offering a measured but consistent rhythm.
The Spear's attack animations focus on linear thrusts rather than sweeping arcs. This gives it a narrower hit area compared to the Ringblade or Sword, but it also means the Spear's damage is concentrated on a single point. Against large enemies with specific weak points, the Spear's precision allows players to target those vulnerable spots more consistently.
Best Use Cases
The Spear is particularly effective against larger bosses and elite enemies in Honor of Kings: World. Many boss monsters have specific weak points on their bodies (such as a head, core, or exposed limb) that take increased damage when hit. The Spear's forward-reaching thrusts make it easier to target these points precisely, especially when the boss's body parts are elevated or positioned awkwardly for shorter-range weapons.
The Spear is also valuable in encounters where maintaining distance is critical. Some enemies have close-range area attacks, grab moves, or explosion effects that punish players who stay too close. The Spear allows continuous damage output while staying outside these danger zones.
In the open world, the Spear works well against single strong enemies encountered during exploration. It allows the player to deal consistent damage while staying safe, which is especially useful when exploring higher-level regions where enemies can kill in a few hits.
Combo Potential and Weapon Switching
Within Primal Flow's weapon switching system, the Spear serves as a mid-range control tool that sets up transitions into close-range weapons. A common approach is to open with Spear thrusts to soften an enemy from a safe distance, then switch to the Sword or Ringblade when an opening appears and the player wants to close in for faster damage.
The Spear also functions well as a defensive retreat option. If a player is in the middle of a close-range combo with the Sword or Ringblade and the enemy begins a dangerous attack, switching to the Spear on the next input allows the player to continue dealing damage while creating distance.
An advanced technique involves using the Spear's forward thrusts to push into an enemy's space, then immediately switching to the Hammer for a devastating close-range charged attack. The Spear's forward momentum closes the gap that the Hammer needs to be effective.
Connection to Hero Polearm Styles
Several hero Flow Styles in Honor of Kings: World use polearm-type weapons. Guan Yu's Dragon Moon Blade is a variant spear and polearm style that features wide, sweeping attacks with his iconic glaive. Zhao Yun's Dragon Courage Flow Style also incorporates spear techniques. These hero styles offer more specialized polearm combat with unique abilities and ultimate moves.
Primal Flow's Spear is simpler than these hero variants but benefits from the weapon switching system. Players who enjoy the Spear's reach may want to explore Guan Yu's or Zhao Yun's Flow Styles for a deeper polearm experience, while keeping Primal Flow equipped for situations that call for weapon variety.
Tips
Use the Spear's range to your advantage against enemies with telegraphed charge attacks. Stay at maximum distance, land thrusts between their attack windups, and switch to a faster weapon when they stagger. The Spear is especially effective during the first phase of a boss fight when you are still learning the enemy's attack patterns, because it lets you observe from a safe distance while still contributing damage. When fighting in co-op, the Spear allows off-tank players to deal damage from behind the frontline without getting hit by cleave attacks aimed at the tank.
