Sovereigns

Initial comprehensive article creation
Sovereigns were the rulers of the Old World — the unified reality that existed before the Sundering. Each Sovereign controlled a pair of opposing Aspects: philosophical or scientific principles that existed in balance with each other. Light and Dark. Love and Hate. Life and Death. Order and Chaos. Infinity and Finity. The Sovereigns maintained the equilibrium between these opposing forces, and the Nexus — the energy network connecting everything — functioned smoothly as long as they did their job.
There were at least 28 Sovereigns (based on Apeiron being identified as the 28th), and possibly more. When the Sundering split the paired Aspects apart, some Sovereigns transitioned into Novarch roles, keeping one half of their former domain. Others disappeared. The missing Sovereigns — particularly the 11th — are part of the game's ongoing mysteries.
Controlled the Aspects of Order and Chaos. After the Sundering, he became the 2nd Novarch with authority over Order only. Victus is the figure most directly connected to the World-Ender conflict — he fought the World-Ender seven times and destroyed them twice, but could never finish the job because of the Life-Death Contract granting the World-Ender immortality.
Controlled the Aspects of Reality and Illusion. Current status after the Sundering is unclear. Nothing else has been revealed about this Sovereign.
Controlled the Aspects of Life and Death. Amstradath is connected to the World-Ender through the "Life-Death Contract" — an agreement that granted the World-Ender immortality. Whether Amstradath made this contract willingly or was coerced isn't known. This Sovereign's current status is also unclear.
Controlled the Aspects of Light and Dark. When the Sundering split the pair, Armand kept the Dark half and became the 17th Novarch. He gave the Light authority to a monk named Prabhas. Why he gave up Light rather than keeping both halves is one of the background details that hasn't been explained.
Blade, the 22nd Novarch, is actively searching for the missing 11th Sovereign. Their identity, their Aspects, and what happened to them after the Sundering are all unknown. Blade's search for this figure forms part of his personal storyline in Nexus Anima.
Controlled the Aspects of Love and Hate. After the Sundering, she became the 29th Novarch with authority over Hate only. According to legend, Parayaya fell in love with someone she shouldn't have and suffered both treachery and punishment as a result. The Love authority apparently went to a different Novarch. Parayaya is available as a Kardia character during gameplay.
Controlled the Aspects of Infinity and Finity. After the Sundering, Apeiron became the 57th Novarch with authority over Infinity, having lost the Finity authority. The large gap between Sovereign number (28th) and Novarch number (57th) suggests the numbering systems follow different logic.
The Sovereigns cast a long shadow over the current world. The Novarch system is built on top of what they left behind, and many of the game's mysteries — the Sundering's cause, the World-Ender's identity, the missing Sovereigns — trace back to the Old World that the Sovereigns once governed. Understanding them is part of understanding what went wrong and whether it can be fixed.
