Overview
Planestriders are individuals who travel between the 81 Planes that make up the New World after the Sundering. They function as inter-dimensional travelers and agents, often dealing with supernatural threats that span multiple Planes.
Known Planestriders
Kiana is the most prominent confirmed Planestrider. Described as "a Planestrider on a long journey" with silver braids and a star accessory, she is currently handling an Aspect Fracture on behalf of the Committee for a Joyful Iia.
The player character is described as "a plane-hopping traveler who has escaped captivity," which may also classify them as a Planestrider. Given the protagonist's revealed identity as the World-Ender, their ability to traverse Planes could be connected to their former status as a cosmic entity.
Role in the World
Planestriders appear to function as problem-solvers who address threats like Aspect Fractures across different Planes. This makes them distinct from Animasters (who train and battle with Anima) and Novarchs (who rule individual Planes). However, a character can hold multiple roles: Kiana is both a Planestrider and an Animaster.
Role Flexibility
Being a Planestrider is not exclusive of other roles. The same character can hold multiple identities simultaneously: Kiana is both a Planestrider (dimensional travel work) and an Animaster (Anima training and battle), operating across two distinct hierarchies at once. The broader Animaster category itself is flexible. Some Animasters compete in tournaments, some specialize in exploration, and some focus on research. A Planestrider title sits adjacent to those paths rather than replacing them.
Distinction from Other Roles
Planestriders are distinct from Animasters in their primary function. Animasters train and battle with Anima within a single Plane; Planestriders travel between Planes to address Aspect-level destabilization. They are also distinct from Novarchs, who rule individual Planes and govern Aspects but are not themselves travelers. The role's mobility is what makes Planestriders useful to organizations like the Committee for a Joyful Iia when problems span multiple Planes.
