Frostrail is planned to launch in Early Access on Steam, with the store page listing a release window of Q4 2026. As of October 2026, no exact date has been announced. The developers expect the game to stay in Early Access for about a year before its full 1.0 release, and they have described in the store's Early Access section what the first version will contain and what they plan to add.

The store answer cites the collective Early Access experience of Shiro Games and FakeFish. The developers say they want a process that takes in player feedback and wishes early, and that players who join in Early Access will be able to directly influence how Frostrail develops.
The store page states: "We expect Frostrail to remain in Early Access for about a year." The exact length will depend on player feedback and on how the developers' ideas progress. Their stated goal is for the game to reach a high standard of quality and depth of content before full release.
According to the store, the Early Access version contains the core gameplay mechanics and features described in the About This Game section, is fully playable, and is meant to be a solid foundation. Some non-blocking bugs may occur because of early features. Based on that store description, the core includes:
Operating the train: fueling the Eden Engine, managing power, reinforcing walls, crafting weapon stations, upgrading the engine and adding carriages, crafting stations and storage (see The Train).
Surviving the cold, with heat to ration and blizzards that blind, slow and suffocate (see Survival).
Exploring abandoned settlements, wreckage, derelict bunkers and ruined strongholds (see Exploration and Dungeons).
Scavenging, hunting and crafting weapons and equipment (see Crafting and Scavenging).
Fighting the Revenants solo or as a group (see Combat and Multiplayer and Co-op).
The developers plan to add content and features during Early Access, along with polishing, balancing and bug fixing. The store lists three areas:
Area | Planned additions |
|---|---|
More content | Biomes to steam through, unique locations to discover, dungeons to loot |
More progression | Varied loot, crafting new items and weapons, upgrading your train |
New situations | Placing players in unique and precarious scenarios, especially in co-op |
The store says these additions and their progress will be shared through roadmaps published over time. As of October 2026, no roadmap had appeared in the game's official news posts.
As of October 2026, the Early Access price has not been announced. The developers' plan is to gradually increase the price at the 1.0 release, depending on how much content and how many features are added.
The developers plan to be active on the official Discord server and the Steam forums, to discuss upcoming changes with the community for early feedback, and to run surveys and events. They have already used surveys and bug reporting in the playtests and closed beta and the October 2026 demo.
Controller support is planned but will probably not be available right at the start of Early Access.
Crew size (currently one to four players) will be evaluated during Early Access to balance group size and challenge.
Full mod support is not possible, partly because of engine constraints; smaller-scale modding and other customization will be explored during development and Early Access.
Mac and Linux support can only be confirmed on release.
