11Cid Highwind is the cantankerous pilot of the airship Highwind and one of two characters who become fully playable for the first time in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. As the party’s aviator, Cid is closely tied to the airship that carries the group across the world during their journey. His airship, the Highwind, becomes available roughly five to six hours into the game and opens up free exploration of the planet.2233In Battle445566The director has characterised his style as an aerial counterpart to Red XIII's, with a wide set of abilities he can perform in the air against enemies. That is where Cid is at his strongest, and it makes him the party's answer to targets that are awkward to reach from the ground.7788His airship is drawn into the fighting as well. Official material places some Weapon battles in mid-air dogfights, so the Highwind is a battlefield as well as a way to get around. On the ground the party now has Chocobo mounts and a grappling hook alongside the parachute drop. For the guardians themselves, see The Weapons.991010Cid fights with a lance and can control the tempo of a battle, quickly closing the distance for powerful single-target strikes or shifting to sweeping area-of-effect attacks. He uses the hybrid battle system and the job-inspired FITS system like the rest of the party.11111212Character13131414The reveal leaned into his bravado with the introduction: “The Leaping Lancer, the Dashing Dragoon, the one and only Cid Highwind!” His home, Rocket Town, was among the locations shown during the gameplay presentation and is one of the named regions players can visit while exploring the planet.15151616See also Vincent Valentine and the full party.
