Veterancy

Initial version (2026-09-29)
Units in D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict gain experience and rank up, becoming stronger the longer they survive. The developers described the system in September 2025 as a way to reward keeping units alive. The game had not been released as of September 2026, and the details below come from the developers' own explanations.
There are four ranks. Each is reached once a unit's kills add up to a set percentage of that unit's own value.
Rank | Kill Value Needed (Percentage of the Unit's Own Value) |
|---|---|
Rank 1 | 250% |
Rank 2 | 500% |
Rank 3 | 1000% |
Rank 4 | 2000% |
As of September 2025, experience is awarded for kills, specifically for landing the final blow. The developers said they would ideally like to change this so experience is based more on damage dealt, which would spread promotions more evenly across an army.
Ranking up improves a unit in several ways.
Bonus | Effect |
|---|---|
Damage resistance | Takes less damage |
Firepower | Deals more damage |
Movement speed | Moves faster |
Rate of fire | Fires more often |
Accuracy | Hits more often |
Crush avoidance | Higher chance of automatically moving out of the way of crushing vehicles |
Health regeneration | A small amount of regeneration, with higher ranks raising the health level it can regenerate up to |
The developers had no concrete plans for special effects at the highest rank as of September 2025, but said they would probably experiment, for example with an upgraded version of a unit's main weapon or extra utility such as stealth detection.
Vehicles do not gain rank themselves. Their crews do, and a crew passes its rank on to whatever vehicle it is operating. If a vehicle is destroyed, veteran crew members who survive can be reused, so experience is not lost with the hull. The developers repeated this in December 2025, answering a question about crews on naval units.
Crews come from Recruits, and vehicles are always built with a full crew, as explained on the Resources and Logistics page. Units can also be retired to get Recruits back, though the developers were unsure in November 2025 whether retiring a veteran would give any extra reward.
Repair and healing support the system. Vehicles can go back to repair facilities and infantry are healed at the barracks, so a damaged veteran can be pulled out and restored rather than lost. More on repairs, crushing and other combat rules is on the Combat and Unit Control page.
