DAWNGAZER is an action RPG. As of October 2026 no gameplay footage has been shown, so everything on this page comes from director Takafumi Noma's statements at the reveal in September 2026. They describe a game still in development and may change before release.
Noma, who spent about ten years as an action game programmer early in his career, said action games depend on how they feel the moment you pick them up: how the game responds to a button press, the impact when an attack lands, and the sense of distance to an enemy. He wants to combine that feel with RPG character growth and a branching structure.
He also said the game should not be only for people who are good at action games. In the English interview he put it this way: he wants "to emphasize the fun of developing your characters and choosing how to fight depending on the situation."
According to Noma, a single playthrough is fairly short and the game has many endings. The protagonist is the only character who can take up the fight again and again through the power of flame, so information builds up over repeated attempts and he moves closer to the truth. Noma wants the branching to let players feel when events are taking a terrible turn or heading somewhere better, and he said he wants the story to be as game-driven as possible, shaped by what happens in play. See Story Premise.
Element | What has been said |
|---|---|
Recruitable characters | More than 20 characters appear in the teaser, and almost all of them can join the party |
Core companions | Mostly people of the central nation, written パイロス in Japanese |
Characters from other nations | Some join partway through; others share information |
Effect on the story | Changing the members who travel with the protagonist changes how the story goes |
Total playable cast | Noma expects it to be large, given the twelve nations of IGNISPHERE |
Because this is an action game, Noma wanted giant bosses, and he gave the world monsters for that reason. He said he wants monsters players have rarely seen before, ideally the kind that are unsettling to look at and cool at the same time.
As of October 2026 the following have not been announced:
Controls, weapons, skills or how combat works in detail
How many endings there are or how long a playthrough lasts
How character growth works (levels, equipment or other systems)
Whether there is any multiplayer
Difficulty options
A demo or playtest
