Waaagh! Energy is the mechanic that defines the Orks in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV. It is the system that turns the faction’s identity, strength in numbers and relentless aggression, into an actual button the player presses.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has not released yet. Everything on this page reflects information published before launch and may change.
How the Meter Fills
The developers describe Waaagh! as working a little like an energy meter. It fills based on two things: the number of Orks you have on the battlefield, and the number of enemies you have killed. Both halves reward the same behaviour, which is fielding a lot of Orks and throwing them at the enemy.
Triggering It
Waaagh! is not passive. You trigger it, and the point of triggering it is to get a decisive advantage exactly when you need one. Once activated, every fighting unit enters something like a berserker state, becoming more excited and much stronger. The studio is explicit that timing the Waaagh! is a really important part of getting an Ork army over the finishing line, so the skill in the mechanic is in holding it rather than in building it.
The licensor describes the same thing as a classic Ork feature returning to the series: the army-wide spread of the Waaagh! across the whole force rather than a buff on a single unit.
Waaagh! Banners
Waaagh! Banners appear both in the official Ork build menu and in the published play guidance, which tells Ork players to spread their bases, build multiple strongholds and erect plenty of Banners. What a Banner does mechanically has not been detailed, so this page does not state it; what is confirmed is that they are structures the studio wants Ork players building in quantity.
Free Stratagems
The Orks also interact differently with Stratagems. Official guidance tells Ork players to use their Stratagems whenever they can, because for the Orks they are free. That removes the usual reason to hold a Stratagem back and reinforces the same aggressive pattern the Waaagh! meter rewards.
