Lion El'Jonson

Initial version (2026-09-15)
Lion El’Jonson is the Primarch of the Dark Angels, and in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV he becomes playable at the climax of the Space Marines campaign. The studio bills him as the very first playable Warhammer 40,000 Primarch to appear in any video game, which makes his appearance one of the headline moments of the whole campaign.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has not released yet. Everything on this page reflects information published before launch and may change.
Primarchs sit at the top of the Space Marine hierarchy, and the claim being made is specific: not the first Primarch to appear in a video game, but the first playable one. The distinction matters for what the moment is for. He is not a cutscene cameo at the end of a story; the player takes control of him.
Because the appearance is positioned as a climax, the studio has kept the surrounding detail thin on purpose. How long he is playable, what he can do, whether he appears in more than one mission and whether he is available outside the campaign have not been described before launch, and none of it is assumed here.
The Space Marines are played as two Chapters across the campaign: the Blood Ravens, who come to Planet Kronus to rebuild their Chapter, and the Dark Angels, who arrive during the Blood Ravens’ hour of need. Lion El’Jonson caps the Dark Angels’ arc inside that larger story. See Campaign for how the four faction campaigns connect and Story and Setting for the events behind them.
