11Overview2233Tanners are specialized vendors found in settlements across Pywel who sell animal hides and leather-working goods. They are the most reliable way to purchase Thin Hide, Short Hair Hide, Long Hair Hide, and Sturdy Hide without relying on hunting or ranching. Hides are a core crafting material used in leather armor, accessories, and equipment upgrades throughout the game.4455There are 6 Tanner locations confirmed across the continent, each tied to a specific region or city. Their inventories vary by location: larger hub tanners carry up to 7 items including every hide tier, while smaller outpost tanners stock only the most commonly requested materials. The Small Bag, which expands Kliff's carrying capacity, is sold by the most well-stocked tanners and is one of the most important early purchases a player can make.6677Unlike Equipment Shops, Grocer's Shops, and Provisioner's Shops, tanners sell no food, weapons, or general tools. Their inventory is focused exclusively on animal-derived materials. For a full overview of every vendor type and how shops work in Crimson Desert, see the Vendor Directory and the Vendors article.8899How Tanners Work10101111Tanners operate under the same core shop mechanics as all other vendors in Crimson Desert. Opening the trade window lets you buy stock immediately and sell unwanted materials from your inventory. A few rules apply across every tanner:12121313Midnight restock. Hide inventories refresh at in-game midnight. If a tanner has sold out of a particular hide tier, wait until midnight or move to another tanner location to buy more.Repurchase tab. Anything you sell to a tanner appears in a buyback menu for a limited time. Avoid selling crafted goods by accident, since buying them back costs more than the sale price.Selling hides you gathered. Hides obtained from hunting or the ranch at the Greymane Camp can be sold to any tanner for silver. The sale price is the same regardless of location.Story-gated access. Some tanners in contested settlements only become accessible after liberating the surrounding area. If a tanner shown in the directory below is unavailable, complete the relevant faction quest or regional story beat to unlock the settlement.Price consistency. Hide purchase prices are the same across all tanners. There is no benefit to traveling between tanners to compare prices when buying.14141515Tanner Directory16161717The table below lists all 6 confirmed tanner locations, sorted by region. The Item column reflects the number of distinct items each tanner carries in their standard inventory.18181919LocationMerchantItemsNotable StockCalphadeGalen7Small Bag, Thin Hide, Short Hair Hide, Long Hair Hide, Sturdy HideDelesyiaMarin5Small Bag, Thin Hide, Short Hair Hide, Long Hair Hide, Sturdy HideDemenissEldon7Full hide range plus additional crafting materialsHernandRenton7Full hide range plus additional crafting materialsPailuneEdith7Full hide range plus additional crafting materialsVelluaMarin3Thin Hide, Short Hair Hide, Long Hair Hide2020Hide Types21212222Four types of animal hide are available from tanners across Pywel. Long Hair Hide and Sturdy Hide cost 60 silver each and are required for higher-tier equipment, including mid-to-late game leather armor pieces and certain accessories. Sturdy Hide is not available at the Vellua tanner, making the other five locations the only vendor sources for that material.26262727Calphade Tanner28282929The Calphade Tanner is run by Galen and carries 7 items, making it one of the most complete tanner inventories in the game. Galen stocks the full range of hides (Thin, Short Hair, Long Hair, and Sturdy) alongside the Small Bag, which is one of the most important early purchases for inventory management. Calphade is the first tanner many players encounter outside of Hernand, and Galen's full inventory means players traveling through the region do not need to backtrack to a larger hub to restock.30303131Delesyia Tanner32323333The Delesyia Tanner is run by Marin and carries 5 items. Marin's inventory includes the Small Bag and all four hide tiers, making this a fully capable tanner despite the smaller overall item count. Delesyia is the game's technology and science region, and its tanner reflects a slightly more curated selection compared to the larger seven-item tanners. Players spending time in Delesyia for faction content or crafting activities will find everything they need for leather work right here without traveling to another region.34343535Demeniss Tanner36363737Eldon operates the Demeniss Tanner with a 7-item inventory. Demeniss is the political and military center of Pywel, and its tanner is one of the best-stocked in the game. In addition to all four standard hide tiers, Eldon carries supplementary crafting materials not available at smaller tanner locations. Players doing significant crafting work while stationed in Demeniss for story or faction quests should use Eldon as their primary hide supplier.38383939Hernand Tanner40404141Renton runs the Hernand Tanner and stocks 7 items. Because Hernand is the starting region of Crimson Desert, Renton is likely the first tanner players encounter. The Hernand Tanner carries the full hide selection alongside additional crafting materials, making it a strong early-game supplier. Players setting up the Greymane Camp in Hernand and beginning to craft leather equipment will want to visit Renton early to stock up on Thin Hide and Short Hair Hide before venturing further into the continent.42424343Pailune Tanner44444545The Pailune Tanner is run by Edith and carries 7 items. Pailune is the Greymanes' homeland and one of the major late-game regions. Edith's full seven-item inventory includes all four hide tiers and additional crafting materials, making the Pailune Tanner a reliable source when players are working through the story content in that region. Given that Pailune is the goal of the Greymanes' journey, this tanner becomes increasingly important in the latter half of the game.46464747Vellua Tanner48484949The Vellua Tanner is the smallest in Pywel, run by a merchant also named Marin and carrying only 3 items. The inventory is limited to the three lower and mid-tier hides: Thin Hide, Short Hair Hide, and Long Hair Hide. Sturdy Hide and the Small Bag are not available here. Vellua is a smaller or more remote settlement, and the tanner's reduced stock reflects the location's limited supply lines. Players needing Sturdy Hide will need to visit one of the other five tanner locations.50505151Where to Find Hides Without Buying52525353Buying from tanners is not the only way to obtain hides in Crimson Desert. Several alternative sources exist for players who want to reduce silver spending or gather large quantities of material:54545555Hunting. Animals killed in the wild drop hides depending on the creature type. Wolves, bears, deer, and other fauna in Hernand, Demeniss, and other regions yield hides on death. Using stealth equipment improves kill quality and the chance of obtaining better hides. See Hunting for full details on equipment and techniques.Ranching. Livestock raised at the Greymane Camp ranch produce hides and other animal materials over time. Setting up a productive ranch reduces the need to buy hides from vendors for the entire game. See Housing and Farming for how to build and manage the ranch.Companion dispatch. Companions sent on resource extraction missions can return with hides alongside other gathered materials. This is a passive source that runs while the player is doing other activities. See Greymane Camp for the dispatch system.Combat drops. Certain enemy types, particularly animal-based creatures and bandits carrying leather gear, occasionally drop hides. These are inconsistent sources but add up over the course of normal play.56565757Tips58585959Buy the Small Bag early. The Small Bag sold by the Calphade and Delesyia tanners (among others) expands Kliff's carrying capacity. It is priced at 50 silver and should be purchased as soon as it is accessible. Running out of inventory space in the middle of an exploration session is one of the most common early-game frustrations, and the bag solves this immediately.Vellua lacks Sturdy Hide. If you are traveling through Vellua and need Sturdy Hide for a recipe, do not count on Marin to have it. Plan ahead and stock up at one of the five full-inventory tanners before entering the area.Hernand is the first tanner. Renton in Hernand is available early in the game. Visit him after setting up the Greymane Camp to secure a supply of basic hides for the first crafting recipes you unlock.Hides restock at midnight. If a tanner runs out of a particular hide, the stock refreshes when the in-game clock turns midnight. Camp nearby and wait, or travel to another tanner in a different region to buy more immediately.Long Hair Hide and Sturdy Hide are expensive. At 60 silver each, these premium hides add up quickly if purchased in bulk. Consider supplementing vendor purchases with ranch output or targeted hunting to stretch your silver further. Both Delesyia and Vellua merchants are named Marin. These are two different NPCs with the same name stationed at separate locations. The Delesyia Marin carries 5 items including Sturdy Hide; the Vellua Marin carries only 3 items and does not stock Sturdy Hide.60606161See Also62626363TopicDescriptionVendor DirectoryFull list of every vendor type and location across PywelVendorsHow shops work: restock, repurchase, selling, and currencyCraftingHow to use hides and other materials to make equipmentHuntingAlternative source for hides through tracking and killing wildlifeHousing and FarmingRanch livestock at the Greymane Camp for a passive hide supplyEquipment ShopsVendors specializing in weapons, armor, and combat materialsShops and VendorsOverview of all shop types and how to use them across PywelTailorsVendors selling clothing, cosmetics, and fabric-based gear
