Chop bamboo with a logging axe; the Sturdy Tree Branch is a chance drop on a felled bamboo stand the same way the standard Tree Branch drops from regular trees. Bamboo is rarer than ordinary trees, so the farming loop is slower but yields the upgraded weapon directly without an intermediate refinement step.
