Set it down on the ground in an open area where birds fly, load it with the food the target species prefers, and then keep your distance until birds land to feed. Each successful feed increases trust with that bird until it crosses the registration threshold and can be tamed as a pet.

Confined spaces under a roof or inside a town rarely attract anything.Load the feeder with the food the target bird actually eats.
