New article: Praevus the Ancient boss guide with fire resistance strategy
Praevus the Ancient is one of three corrupted Ancient bosses in the Shackled God faction quest line in Crimson Desert. Of the three encounters, Praevus is widely regarded as the most difficult and punishing. The boss uses fire-based attacks and a devastating meteor skill that can one-shot players who are not properly positioned. The fight takes place at the Abyss Debris, a scorching desert location west of the town of Tommaso.
Praevus is located at the Abyss Debris, due west of the town of Tommaso. Unlike Priscus's encounter, there is no puzzle involved in reaching this boss. Simply mark the quest objective on your map through the Faction Quests journal and travel to the designated location. The boss fight begins when you enter the arena area.

Praevus combines standard Ancient flight patterns with dangerous fire abilities. The arena itself has scorching temperatures, which makes the fire debuff especially punishing. Praevus' abilities are similar to those of Priscus and Primus, but they are imbued with fire, making each hit deal more damage and apply burning status effects.
Meteor Strike: Praevus' signature ability. He calls out a vocal warning before launching a barrage of meteors across the arena. These meteors explode on impact and deal massive area-of-effect damage. Even dodging the initial impact will still catch you in the explosion radius, which can one-shot most players.
Fire Debuff: Many of Praevus' attacks apply a burning status that deals damage over time. If you are knocked down while burning and Praevus follows up with the meteor attack, it is almost always fatal.
Crowd Control (CC): Praevus can knock you down and stun you with fire-based attacks. Being CC'd during the meteor barrage is the primary cause of death in this encounter.
Flight Patterns: Like the other Ancients, Praevus spends significant time in the air and is difficult to hit with melee attacks.
The key to surviving this fight is fire resistance and proper use of the arena's central monolith. The monolith is a large stone spire in the center of the boss arena that provides total cover from the meteor attack.
Bring fire-resistant gear: Equip armor with fire resistance. The burning debuff from Praevus' attacks is extremely dangerous, and reducing its damage makes the fight much more manageable.
Stock up on arrows: A bow is the most effective weapon for this encounter. Melee damage triggers Praevus to use the meteor attack more frequently.
Bring healing items: The fire debuff deals passive damage, so have plenty of recovery items on hand.
Stay at range and use bow attacks: Arrow shots build Praevus' stagger meter. When the stagger bar fills, he crashes down for a vulnerable period where you can deal heavy melee damage.
Listen for the meteor warning: Praevus yells before casting the meteor strike. When you hear the callout, immediately run to the center of the arena and position yourself behind the monolith. The monolith blocks the explosions entirely.
Avoid extended melee combos: Praevus appears to use the meteor attack more frequently when players deal sustained melee damage to him, especially when he descends to the ground. Keep melee bursts short and retreat to range afterward.
Clear the burning debuff: If you are burning, prioritize healing or waiting for the debuff to expire before re-engaging. Being caught burning during a meteor barrage is almost always fatal.
Defeating Praevus progresses the Shackled God quest line. After all three Ancients are killed, the quest returns to the Serpent Shrine for the final encounter with Aeserion.
